Easily but still requires a fireform, the 9.5 is "improved" and has taper blown out of it the 9.3 still has. With just a neck size, and load they'll shoot, but you're down on a small bit of powder the first loading. After that first firing they're full fledged 9.5s.
Just my way of thinking I guess...... the 9.3 ammo is readily available and not "too" costly...... in terms of this project anyways.....
It's a nice rifle.... and the "krylon attitude" gives the project a certain something..... tough as nails light rifle ready for abuse yet can be prettier back up in a heartbeat..... I like that...

Probably a smart route like that to it, but I like the ease of loading a few grains of pistol powder under corn meal kept in with a tissue plug. It gets you fully functional brass if you're not a perfectionist, but I like to do one more step with a light load fireform. Then they look factory after a tumble except for the headstamp and annealing temper colours.
I no longer have my 9.5X57, but I made cases for it the same as I do 9.3X57. Easiest way is to expand 8X57 necks to 40 cal using an RCBS 30-40 neck expander. Then neck down to .375 using the FL sizing die just enough to have a crush fit in the chamber.
Two operations, that's all. From there you just prime, load, and go.
I do the same to make 9.3X62 from 30-06 brass.

Seems I've got a die to order.
Here's the RCBS die for necking 30 cal to 400, Angus. You might also be able to use a 40 cal pistol die expander. Never tried it, so not sure about that.
Lube the inside of the standard neck well, bottom case, and a single pass through the die gets you the case in the middle of this picture. The top case has formed the brass to a slight crush fit in the chamber. Chambering the case actually completes the forming process.
The best part is that you load the reformed brass with whatever load you need to. No need to have an intermediate fireforming step. These are actual hunting loads.
Full power loads create perfectly formed and headspaced brass.
Simple as 1, 2, 3.

My barrel contour is going to be way too small unfortunately, I only have .125" barrel thickness / wall at the muzzle. Already have an NECG banded front for the same effect, and a few more options (put a window hood on it with fiber optic front sight blade).

Ted will try my 10mm / .40 die later but suspect there won't be enough taper on the expander. Easily adapted, but the fireform with corn meal way produces the same result with loadable brass, they're just down a few grains powder first loading.
There was a thread in the reloading forum on this... I recall someone using a .416 expander button to do the same thing.

Not to hijack or anything. But I wanted a lighter, simpler mountain gun as well. Decided to try this. About 5.5 lb without scope. Comes apart in 10 seconds to go in your pack.....scope mounts on a Recknagel quick release mount....seems to hold zero so far. I would have gone 7x57r, but decided I wanted easy to find ammo, so 7 mag. The set trigger is really sweet, as are the iron sights....the gun comes up perfectly for me...Ok, back to our regularly scheduled super-light!!!
