I'm on the hunt for a woman's rifle. I'm looking for honest opinions and experiences of them. So far I'm leaning heavily toward the savage 11 lady hunter and weatherby Camilla vanguard, but there's a lot of other compact/youth models out there that might fit the job. What do you guys think?

The rifle that fits HER not the new one you'd like for yourself . LOL

Fit and balance trumps all, then pick a cartridge based on the game she is going to pursue.

Vanguards tend to be on the heavy side.

I gifted a Savage Light Weight in 7-08 to my nephew this fall, issue is my niece really likes shooting it.

Time to look for another.

Browning miadas micro is what I ended up getting my wife. Already had a savage 111 youth in 243 but even that was too big/heavy for her to shoot well. The miadas micro fits her like a glove

What he said ^^^^^.

I once took my youngest daughter (grown woman) into P&D for a surprise b-day present. I wanted to buy her a new Browning Citori ~ $1800. After tryig a bunch of different shotguns she said "No Thanks" to the Citori and that she preferred the Browning BPS at less than half the cost. And we hid the price tags on her so she didn't know the $$.

Oh yeah...and don't over look the Browning Micro Midas series of rifles.
Dave.

My Wife is 5'8" tall and over the years I have been keeping track of how much weight She has lost, She now weighs 27 pounds but looks heavier, the rifles that She owns and likes are a compact Vanguard ladies model 243, a Marlin Texan (straight stock)30 30 and a Husqvarna M98 in 6.5x55 with a Boyd's thumbhole stock(pink), She had a NEF 30 30 that She could shoot as well, She has tried others and not been happy including a Savage 11 and a Remington 7 both in 7 08 as well as a Marlin 336 in 30 30. As previously stated fit and feel is important so the more rifles She can handle the better.

How big is she? Do you know her LOP? How strong is she? How much shooting experience does she have? How does she tolerate recoil? Does she have style preferences... is she ok with stainless/synthetic or does she prefer blued/walnut?

Wow 27 pounds, better stand behind her and prop her up when she pulls the trigger!

Who are you, Roy Moore?

Hi oh!

But seriously, she'll have to try a bunch. Fit is so important for felt recoil as is being comfortable with the gun.

And for hunting what? Sounds like she has a decent battery of rifles already, what is the new one for?

I one time bought a bantam gun (I am 5'7 - and a half :D) thinking it would be easier to handle. It was a hard lesson learned after I got the back of my thumb in my eye trying to shoot skeet. There may have been a lot of contributing factors to this happening... but once I switched to an adult gun, I eliminated my black-eye effort.
My point, she needs to try them out before considering a youth or compact.
