The post office has my sig!!

Nice gun!! Even better thread. As far as im concerned all i have is a package. I have no idea whats in the package until i get home!!!

I must say - you are handling the ribbing pretty well! hahaha

Nice piece! Now - go shooting this weekend!!!! :D

hey you gotta laugh at yourself and admit your follies every now and then, its healthy :) Hopefully I can go shooting this weekend if my att comes through!

Lol. I am so amazed how many people use "ignorance" (ie. it's just a package, how do I know there's a gun in there.), to justify not getting a STATT to go pick up a parcel from the post office which contains a firearm....but I guess to each their own.

If you have a question about the necessity of a STATT when you are going to the post office to pick up a parcel containing a firearm (in this specific case, he knew it was a firearm)...maybe you should ask somebody who actually knows the answer. Call the CFO and they will give you a definite answer, then they'll email you your STATT. Or you could ask somebody who "might know", and they could think up some excuse or technicality or scenario as to why you wouldn't need one. Unfortunately there is only one right answer...and it's the CFO's answer.

If you have other questions...like do I need to open the package and put a trigger lock on it or place it in a lock container once I receive the parcel at the post office... ask the CFO...cause they'll be more than happy to provide you with the right answer. LOL. Personally for me...better safe, than sorry.

I can't wait to take this beaut to the range!
It's already sitting on the range. Didn't you look at your own pictures? :)

I was surprised the original poster (drgroove101) didn't say in post #30 "I got my package home and opened it. I was astounded to find out it was a gun I had ordered. I never expected that!"

do I need to open the package and put a trigger lock on it or place it in a lock container once I receive the parcel at the post office.
No. You may have noticed a theme in the restricted firearm transport regulations -- thou shalt not open the container except at home and at the range. Besides, opening it at the post office might expose employees to needless ulcers, and the owner to an unnessessary chat with a half dozen police responding to a gun call at a post office. Speaking of which, why isn't this thread titled "Going Postal" ?

To my mind this means "damned if you do, damned if you don't." There's no way that cardboard box is an approved container. I seem to recall that the original plastic box they all come in isn't approved either, at least not in Ontario/Quebec, and it's certainly not locked even if it were. There's no way you can trigger lock the firearm. There's no way you can verify it's unloaded. There's no way you can comply with the conditions of a STATT anyway. [unlike purchasing in person at a gun shop -- where you can do all these things].
Anyway, the firearm is/was safe (unloaded). It is where it is supposed to be. It went there by the shortest and most approved route. No harm no foul.

If one was to get a short term ATT to take ones pistol home from the Post Office, one would actually be breaking the law if one did not open the box in the post office. Let me explain: Your short term ATT says "Must be rendered inoperable with a secure locking device and in n opeque container not readily broken open" so to comply with the permit you have just been handed you must open the box in the post office and put a trigger lock, or some such device on the gun, put it in a lockable container before you can leave the post office. For all those who insist they require this peice of paper to take their property home from the post office, please follow the above rule, and tell the CFO's office that is what you are going to do and must do legally to comply with the law. Then let me know how quickly the drones back down!!!

f:P:

Yeah Bud
You wanna play by the rules then play by the rules till the end, open the damm box and get the gun in plain view of everyone in the post office and inspect it to see if it's not loaded then put a trigger lock on it.

Have a nice time explaining everything to the police when they'll come after you.

Oh my! f:P:

It's a joke right? tell me it's a joke.

I'm calling for a ban on the f:P: smilie as you nutz have completely
lost your ability to control your use of it.

f:P: D'Oh...

Bantarians are so whipped by the quazi-regs and a firearms act
so poorly formulated that no one stands a chance of getting it right.

And still the gang land violence and criminal gun activitiy go unchecked.

Our OP may have gone all sideways on the delivery but the real
travesty is the nonsense of the rules.

Did you miss the point of my post and explanation?

So the question is, do you need an ATT to pick a hand gun up at the post office?

I don't know. I have never knowingly picked up a handgun at the post office; only packages with unknown contents. And those do not require an ATT. It is only once I am in my house that the package is finally "delivered" and I can open it up and see what is inside. Sometimes, yes it is a handgun! But until then it is only a piece of mail. That is what allows postal workers to handle and transport the package. Me driving it home is just the final leg of the delivery.

I never waited for an ATT to get a package at the postal office.

I also never waited, but once I decided to call CFO just to know what they think. CFO sad, we do need ATT to transport from/to PO.

"But you can not know what is in package". It means you do not need ATT

good one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never gotten a temp ATT to pick up a restricted from the post office. As long as you don't open it at the post office it is still in transit with canada post from what I understand.

Second that. As long as it is unopened by the reciever it is still calssified as in transit.
