I'd never been a big Desert Eagle fan, and kind of wrote them off as being useless...
But unexpectedly, one day at TSE, I got a Desert Eagle Mk. I 357 mag for ~$1200. It was in pretty good shape, the frame was the discontinued stainless version, I'd just saved about that much for an AR anyway, and they were throwing in 5 mags! I couldn't argue with a deal like that! I also kinda figured I could sell it to Millsy since he was planning to get a DE...
I think most of those ended up being excuses though, since I'd spent so much time arguing Glock vs. DE with him on ICQ.
By this time, I already had my "reliable, all-purpose handgun" (G17) so I wanted a DE to do some more extensive testing!
In the end, it was super-picky about ammo, only Winchester seemed to cycle reliably and not spray copper shreds out the gas system, though homemade reloads work perfectly in it. Also a real pain to clean, it takes about 15min to a half hour to scrape the gunk out... I have to admit though, that thing is a real tackdriver, and the *WHUMP* it makes when you shoot it is hard to beat!
