The SL8 Mods, Info and FAQ Thread

Next time I will try dry graphite. About cold... The day I get my problem was a cold one. And I have left the gun in my car 50 minutes before entering the range. Maybe it a mix of over lubrification and cold.

Thank You!

went to the range today to see if the cleaning fixed the problem.... it did not :( going to try taking the bolt apart and cleaning the actual firing pin. Will update

What mags are you using? When did the problem first start? Is the bolt fully closed? What are all the mods you have done? Is it always at 4 or 5 rounds?

I have try to contact Spuhr about distributor in Canada but I never get any awnser... Anyone try to contact them directly?

By the way I found this picture on Militaryphotos.net. :

With this comment : "In a year, there will be also original H&K M16 magazine conversion available."

Anyone have news about it???

What are the thoughts on using dry graphite for lube? We use it at work a bit and found it cant be beat in areas that wet lube atracts dirt, the cold also has no efect on it. I guess you would possably loose the rust inhibiting though??

I have not really looked at dry lubes. I just like the tradition of oil. :)

IM just hoping I can get the Magwell (Unknown Make) to work right this year.

Last year it seemed to stovepipe every few rounds... Im thinking it being the magwell (remember reading that somewhere)

I want my SL36 to work right this year, then maybe I'll invest in a C barrel.

I am seriously considering buying a SL8 for target and varmint. I've always wanted a semi-auto!! But do you, SL-8 owners, recomend it for hunting varmint? At almost 10 pounds is it too heavy?

Thank you!!

RYBACK!!!

They would be a pretty solid varmint tool. Not a great push the bush type too though.

Agreed, what makes the SL8 so good is the heavy match grade barrel. As a polymer based rifle without the heavy barrel it'd be quite light by comparision.

That said it's the same heavy barrel profile that makes it such a good shooter.

The same can be said of any rifle barrel though... all things being equal often the heavier the barrel profile the more accurate it is. Lightening a barrel can often save weight at the expense of rigidity... and accuracy when it come to a semi auto specifically.

Makin the sl8 skinny

Hey all what do you guys think we can do to make the sl8 lighter, I am wearing a tbostic right now and planning to go to ar adapter. I know a guy could lighter he barrel and that would be significant, flutes might not hurt accuracy. What else can a guy do now???

you can replace the SL8 20" heavy barrel with the G36E 18.5" light profile barrel.

Hard to find, but its possible. I almost bought one not too long ago. Ended up getting the G36k barrel and going the restricted route.

This: Cut down to 18.5", re-profiled and threaded.
