The T97 Thread!

tadosan, did you get your barrel threaded, or is that a clamp on?

J_case123,

I am not sure which province you live in. I live in BC & took mine over to Dlask Arms to have the original flash hider removed, the barrel re-threaded to allow it to accept AR-15 type of muzzle devices.
I had a spare AAC blackout muzzle brake which you see was installed on the T97. I just paid for the labor work, about $100.

I think that may work, it looks really close, I'm using a weaver tactical model 800364 1-5 x 24 CIRT , those low rings look like they'll work, no question the medium rings will. Hot damn, amazon prime has them for just under 40 bucks... thanks!

I use these rings on several rifles, started buying them after I launched that scope in the pic off a 45/70 when a standard weaver blew appart under recoil... Ruger #1 loads in an encore produce impressive recoil for a 6lb rifle ;)

Was going to mention that I find these rings in the pic a bit low, thinking about switching to a 3-9 in a set of mediums or a FakEotek red dot.

ah, i live in ontario. my local gunsmith said he could rethread mine if i was able to take off the barrel. so i decided not to bother lol

I actually wasn't planning to change the muzzle device at the time. I deal with Dlask from time to time & went there to put a brake on one of my bolt action & during the course of a discussion, I mentioned the T97 having a flash hider & how I would have preferred to put a muzzle brake instead, but couldn't, due to the threading. Of course, Dlask specializing in barrels & having all the necessary equipment & machines, was told that they will be able to do it within a day or two, depending on their schedule. Well, the rest is history.

I have the low profile showing up tomorrow, because it seems the right height to align with my eye and good cheek weld. My scope has a good nob for quick adjustments and there looks like there will be just the right amount of clearance. If not, I'll just order the medium rings and use these elsewhere :D

I contacted Joe Dlask about a couple rifles to bring in, I want to get my T97 threaded and m305 chopped, crowned and threaded. I also know of someone that went to Dlask to have their Kel Tech Sub 2000 threaded (I just opted for the redlion brake instead of threading). Now that Frank is putting out the pre-orders for the LHG on Monday, this is finally coming together! :D

yeah shipping my rifle to bc just to get it threaded would kill me on shipping costs. if i really wanted a muzzle break id just end up getting one that clamps on from grizzly gunworks, since i live close enough to them that shipping would be next to nothing

I was wondering if any of you have had ejected cases coming out with a small dent near the neck of the cartridge? I went out shooting with a buddy and I put maybe 70 rounds of pmc 5.56 through it and nearly all of them had a small dent in it.

It's just the style of ejector. Happens to everyone - from T97 to AK47. The common belief seems to be that they are still safe to reload.

I reload and I have no issue with reloading dented brass. I would just pay attention to look for cracks in the dented areas after resizing.

How much tension is there supposed to be on the extractor? The bolt will not go into battery at all because the extractor is preventing the rounds from seating immediately against the bolt. I inspected the bolt, cleaned and oiled the extractor springs and it still doesn't seem to help, it seems like something is stuck inside and will only move slightly under a lot of pressure. Mind you this is a new rifle and I haven't fired it yet, just cleaned and tried to cycle some dummy rounds through it. Is the extractor supposed to engage if you let the bolt down gently as well? Help!

I just tried it with mine with a dummy round and when riding the bolt closed it fetches up too. When shooting the rifle I have no issue with this and it works fine. So I think your good to go.

Browsing the Type 97 thread & looking at CGN & Non members who posted pics & video of their rifle, I couldn't help, but notice that some people are inserting the hand guard retaining pin from left to right (pin coming out towards the ejection port), where as others are inserting it from right to left (away from ejection port side).

I then looked up some of the Chinese Army YouTube drill videos & saw that the pin insertion is pretty much standard, that is inserted from ejection port side.

I know it may not have any significance. Just thought I would share my observation.
