The T97 Thread!

Anyone have a line on a takedown pin single point sling loop? I ordered one from a site sponsor only to get an email a few days later saying they were sold out and we're refunding my money.

It's just a shortened AK firing pin. Get an AK pin, carefully cut it to length, and it'll work.

The main recoil spring is similarly an AK spring of a different length. I got a "reduced recoil" spring thats way too heavy, but it DOES fit. I'll try a weaker spring when I have the chance. I wonder if 74 springs are different, and if so, would work better.

Ive got a Gen2 T97. Ive got 2 C product LAR mags and they fit and drop freely without any mods. QC might vary from rifle to rifle so cannot say for sure it will do the same in yours. In that case some modifications as you stated may be needed.

Hi Guys,

I would like to get Gen 2, but I contemplating whether to wait for a deal better than the current $999. Do you guys think they will go down further or have better deals next Black Friday?

Thanks,

Another 360 rounds through the black one. Brings the round count somewhere around 4000.

Hardly any wear even... has anyone actually broke a T97?

There was that one guy here who messed up his hand loads and blew the rear apart. Luckily, the strong nature of the T97's build saved his life.

Here we go. Gives it a lot better hold on the handle.

Should probably cover the serial number.

Looking for a repo qbz 95/97 / Type 97 bayonet. Have the adapter. Also the official PLA sling.. cheers

Typing in T97NSR on ebay will bring up PLA slings. Ive got one, they seem authentic, but the metal hardware is very loud.

Repro QBZ bayonets pop up occasionally as well but they are seriously marked up.

Thanks just ordered the sling, I really wish I could find qbz 95 type lower hand guard.. like the look so much better. I mean it’s just a piece of plastic really, anyone successful in doing this ? I saw DDI puma shotguns have qbz 95 lowers, I wonder if they would fit ? Hmmm

They won't, they're much bigger. I have seen someone working on a 95-style handguard, we'll see if it goes anywhere.

I recently picked up a used GenII off the EE with the original mag and 2 C products LAR mags. The original mag inserted fine but would not drop free, the LAR mags were stiff to insert and remove. I gave them all a squeeze in my bench vice and now the original drops free and the LAR's insert and remove with minimal effort. The only other issue I had with it was the rail was loose, a bit of blue loc-tite took care of that. I am wanting to try a single point sling on it. I would like to try the one that Durham Outdoors has on their site but they are out of stock. I contacted them to see when they would be back in and apparently they are waiting to see when or if the manufacturer will be making another production run. Any one know where I can find one of these, or can recommend another option for a single point sling mount? I am planning on mounting a Vortex Strikefire II and foldaway 3X magnifier behind it.

Thanks, Jim

Just shot a buddies again this last weekend.
It kills me that they have reliability issues with feeding, different mags, certain projectile type ammo etc etc
I had a gen 1 and it just would not feed anything. I think my receiver was badly machined. Every mag just sat too low and almost any ammo type would jam up hard far under the feed ramp.
Mine was terrible accuracy. I'm talking 12" groups at 50 meters with the irons. It's a bullpup with a sponge for a trigger and a 4" sight radius though in all fairness lol

It sucks because the rifle is built like a tank. The beefy AK style action is very smooth on them. I could overlook the wonky ergonomics on the safety (it's not that bad) it's the mag release that is beyond goofy.
I sold mine but a part of me went with it. It has some serious potential but I couldn't justify dumping thousands into it to try and improve on it.
I love the overall design of the rifle and action though. Huge fan. There are not a lot of rifles I would say confidently that I would drop down a flight of stairs then load it and shoot it but the T97 is one of them.

Sucks that you had a bad one. I’ve had two gen 1s and they fed anything. I filed the magwell and flared it as well and the rifles never had a failure. They were handy, robust, bombproof little guns.

It's definitely ammo sensitive. I'm trying different types with wildly different results. I can get 2.5" groups with Aguila 62gr, 3.5" with Fed M193, and 8+" with Federal M855 at 100m using the Irons. I also get big point of impact shifts with different ammo types. The Aguila and the M193 will hit pretty much in the same spot, but the M855 will hit way left. PPU .223 gave me 1.5" groups but hits so for low and to the right I can't adjust the sights nearly enough to zero the rifle. MFS 55gr JHP even more so, a 4" group but going low and right so much it's not even on paper.

I'm running up a round count now, at about 1000 rounds without cleaning and only a handful of malfunctions that I'm pretty sure were cause by the magazines. I can say it likes to be greased, like an AK. That makes that linear hammer snap down instantly which really helps, I think. The serial number is a 15xx so it's also the most recent of the Gen1s. They are definitely built better, and the Gen 2 my friend has is built even better than mine.
