The TAVOR

For those wanting further tech details:

Armourers Manual

Do not service or adjust alone
Under no circumstances will a person operate or maintain rifle without the presence or assistance of another person capable of rendering aid. Unless under direct supervision of a qualified person, no person shall operate or maintain the rifle for which he is not qualified.

Gee, since I'm most likely one of the few former "Small Arms Instructors" here, I guess I'm one of the few that can buy this rifle..... hee hee and use it too :D :D :D

The Tavor will come to Montreal. I will arrange the test shoots. Outdoors will be held Aug. 18 at Granby for the QC PPC provincial match. Afterwards the Tavor will be available for indoor shooting at CRAFM. Will post details soon.

Can i come if im not a member of CRAFM? I probably will be in oct when my other membership ends .

It looks like the pull length is almost as long as the A2. Since the rail does not go all the way to the back, ACOG may not work well for everyone due to the short eye relief. I would have to try it first. Personally I would like an eotch 557 with 4X pocket scope but it is difficult to figure out because tthe rail space is so limited at the rear- unless you prepare to hack away the back up plastic sight and somehow get a longer rail. The whole rifle is arranged for their propriety system of piggy tailing the MARS with their pocket NV or 4X magnificaton scope, which hook on their proprietary locking lug on top of the gas piston. The setup for the ACOG is almost like an afterthought.

Yes, you can. CRAFM (the mtl club) is also a gun shop, open to all.
I think you have to pay a small entrance fee if you want to shoot with another member's gun or one of the club's guns.

Now, the Tavor... it's in the Montreal area right now (in my gun safe, actually) :)
So it's confirmed. Demo & test shoot will be held at the Granby gun club on Saturday Aug. 19. The Tavor will be on demo from 9h00 & shooting (25-200m)can start from 10h30 to 15h30.
On sunday morning Aug. 19, i will drop it at the CRAFM club. Will leave it there up to either tuesday evening or wednesday noon.

Yep, it sure is a cool gun :D
Did some dry fire. The trigger is not bad, quite heavy, long & constant pull (don't have gauge, but feels like 7 pounds or maybe slightly more... normal for a military issue rifle). Reminds me of a Glock trigger, but harder. Not much grittiness. In fact, quite less grit than what you'll find on an out-of-the-box AR15 trigger, ex: from a cheapo DPMS lpk.

Basic field-stripping is a snap. As fast as with an AR15.
Love the flip up tritium backup sights. M21 reflex is also nice. The dot is smaller than what i imagined.

For mag changes, i found that tilting the tavor 60-80degrees left really speed up things... much like a pistol mag change in IPSC. Mags lock up easily & drop free, both 30/5 or RRA 10rounders. However, the firing hand forearm is very close to the mag catch, which can be inadvertedly actionned.

Ok, enough for now... stay tuned for the range report.

Just a quick pic... here it is, below my anti-wendy arsenal.
