The TAVOR

Because the 6MOA dot of the Mepro21 is not good for shooting groups - no one wants to go shoot groups and report crappy results.

well, my results are crappy but at least its a good starting point. What is that you guys do on demo shoots? If you squeese the trigger it makes boom we all already know that.

Red dot required some homework like finding target with bull big enough to use at 100 yards. 8" bull leaves just about enough black around edges that I think if not for M21 it could be as accurate as peep sight. Paper plate might do just as good target by the way.

My 3-shot group measures 47mm which is under 2 MOA. 5-shot group at 50 yards is 26mm - you can see vertical spread attributed to parallax distortion. Considering sights I say Tavor is not 5MOA neither it is 3MOA gun. Well-tortured piece I had is more accurate than any brand new AR out of the box. Better than most tweaked M14's with fancy scopes on it.

I say if more folks did something like that we would have a little more ground for arguments. Post something, measurable groups are always good point. Good or bad - don't just BS.

It's always so fun to watch pissing matches on cgn. :D:popCorn:

I give the tavor a year or two to work out the kinks, get the next batch in, and see about a rail/possible a longer barrel.

I'll compare it to the masada when it comes out, and whichever looks better can come live with me.:sniper:

P.S. - held one.... I like!

Absolutely how I see it. :D :agree: It also depends for me which one is more accurate. I'd want the option of varmint hunting with a varmint style barrel. Providing the accuracy is good. Either way I'll be holding out a bit.

One thing to note with the current demos is that the gun has fired between 15 and 20 thousand rounds thus far. I have never done more than wipe the bolt group with CLP. I believe one or two testers cleaned the bore.

Maximum scores and marksman ratings were and are achievable otherwise they wouldnt be posted.
ergo if MOA is achievable with an L1A1 and iron sights then it should be achievable with a good 5.56 bullpup.:)

Agreed. But again, great pains were taken with marksmanship training to teach holding POA on the Top edge point of the front blade sight, yes? Blackening the front post sight for clarity and focusing on its position releative to the target all the way to follow-through.

Doing so produces a reliable, repeatable point of aim.

With the Early generation of C7 (iron sights) here in Canada, the front post sight sucked ass so badly that when we went through CABC jump school, we stole the ones off the rubber jump training rifles (bizzare, but they had the thinner match front sight posts on them). Marksmanship scores with the stolen refits rose accordingly.

As stated, the big smearey dot can actual cover the entirety of the target at extended distances. So the question becomes "am I holding on that coyote's eye, of the shrub at its feet?" I think anyone claiming great accuracy with a sight designed for close range applications should also be looking to construct their own lightsaber and maybe get in touch with force.

I see NO reason why the rifle itself would not be capable of great accuracy. Anyone claiming superior marksmanship with the big, blurry dot? Well, they'd really have to show me how that works.

Noting the Aimpoint in my sig-line, it was equipped with a 4 moa dot. After changing to a 1 MOA HDS sight, my groupings (and ability to hold on targets between 200 and 400m) changed appreciably. End result - I can pop the steel chickens at 400m reliably enough for my tastes (as in, 1 out of 3 shots). When I'm at 1:1, I know bull#### luck is taking over.

For someone used to firing corrosive ammo (858 fully stripped down after every trip to the range) that boggles my mind. At least we know it's good for the long haul:50cal:

Mounting a mepro to anything else will take a special mount for the mepro, and a rail for the tavor.

I got my mepro off ebay for 200$ and its nice on my 7.5 AR but I wouldnt want it on any serious rifle.

What's special on the Mepro that it requires a special mount? Is it a matter of modifying an existing mount or does something have to be built from scratch?

I was also thinking of mounting mine on a tac shotgun and get a better sight for the Tavor.

Sounds more like a copyright thing...If I recall the M21 sits a bit lower than the fix 4x on picatinny.

I'm sure a good machinist could build an adaptor & use let say a $10 weaver rail..Whatever works.

Haven't really decided which optic I'm putting on if I don't go with the issue 4x day scope.

Optics I'm looking at:

1) Leupold Mk4 1.5-5x20 MRT or even a Leupold 3.5-10 knockoff.
2) NightForce equivalent
3) ACOG RCO A4 etc. etc.

What do you think of the TAVORS alternate MARS sight?

I remember reading on the Meprolight website that various adapters are available for the Mepro 21 for all common mounts (Weaver or Picatinny rails, etc.). I ordered an additional picatinny rail with mine and have a Falcon Menace 1.5-5X30 waiting to put on the Tavor when it arrives. I may look at an ACOG at a later date. The Mepro 21 that comes with it will be going on my CX4 Storm.

Ah yes, just saw that: ht tp://www.meprolight.com/products.asp?id=5

Hopefully CanAm (or someone else) will get some of those adaptors in...

Good choice, as for the ACOG, the closest pre-calibrated one would be the TA-31RCO A4 cause it is for a 20'' & the Tavor (Most) are coming as 18.7 inchers, unless there is other models that do not have BAC.
