Got my Tavor scoped up today, but with the wind chill at -78000 or something it'll be a day or so before it gets sighted in and a few groups shot.
With the riser I used even high rings weren't enough to clear the rear sight, so another riser was piggybacked on to give enough lift. The only rings on hand were some low Weavers, and with this setup the scope is too low and too far back for my liking. Good thing there's another few months of winter to get everything sorted out, but this should be a good enough setup to shoot some groups off sandbags with.
Now all that's needed is a left hand bolt. Have I mentioned this enough times yet? Any news CanAm?

The risers I used were from Marstar...the NcS-MARF model for AR15 at $20 each. There's a pic towards the bottom of the first post in the Tavor FAQ that kinda shows how I cut it to fit. Five minutes with a hacksaw is all it takes to get it to fit for length, and the crossbolts need to be shortened and new (smaller) nuts found so they'll fit inside the receiver sides. I'm unsure of the bolt/nut size, as they appear to be metric...I lucked out and found some in a misc stuff drawer at a local sewing machine repair place.
In the pic you can see the monster nuts that come with the riser, and the little ones I found that are down inside the plastic sides...
All in all a relatively simple and quite inexpensive way to mount a different optic, and a couple of orders of magnitude cheaper than the Tavor specific rails that I've heard are coming.

The wind went down and the temperature up some, so I got things sighted in. The groups are not too great, but considering I was shivering a bit and looking through teary eyes with a horrible cheek weld I'm not disappointed at all.
The two groups on the right corners are PMC 62gr SS109, and the other three are PMC 55gr. Definitely room for improvement, although I'm quite certain it's me that needs to shape up and not the rifle. There's a case of Ruag 63gr inbound right now, and it'll be interesting to see if there's any difference with it.

Is a cheek rest recommended when the riser gets installed? I read your comment about the cheek weld being poor.........

Each riser adds a shade under 3/4". While I was measuring I found that the center of the M21 is ~2.25" from the center of the crossbolt, and with the setup I've got the center of the scope is right around the 2" mark. As the M21 seemed a bit low it's no wonder the scope feels much too low now. For me the optimum height for cheek weld and comfort seems to be 2.50"-2.75", so maybe Santa will bring some taller rings with him in a couple of weeks.

The Acog clone finally showed up, and is almost ideal for me and the Tavor. If it had about 1/4" more height and another inch of eye relief it would be the perfect fit. As it is though it is very very good, and will work well enough for the shooting I'll be doing. Maybe (hopefully) the new rails will have 1" of lift and I'll be in scope height nirvana.
So now it's just hurry up and wait for warmer weather and/or parts, as I've now run out of things to tinker with on the rifle.

There will likely be rails made of different heights, if need be. Hopefully a happy medium can be found with a height that allows for proper use of most common sights (Aimpoint, Eotech, ACOG, etc.).The Acog clone finally showed up, and is almost ideal for me and the Tavor.
