The Templar Thread, 5.56 by Crusader Arms / Spectre LTD

I’m sure they’ll sell some no problem at $3499.00 but that’s asking a lot for the average Joe. I agree if the price was set around the $2500 mark they would sell a ton of these. See how it goes I guess, they definitely have a supply and demand thing going for them.

They sold over half of the first pre order batch in 6hrs. Not really surprised, this caliber is what many people wanted.

As much as I appreciate them coming out with another calibre rifle, I’d love to see them work on filling the orders for the Templar first.

Apparently the delay with the recent batch of orders (Late Decemeber to January) was lack of the F5 MFG ACR-style stock. Those have supposedly come in earlier this week or last, so they started fulfilling orders again this past week. Hopefully you get yours soon.

I agree, it seems a little opportunistic to jump in with a new rifle pre-orders when other, older, orders haven't been filled yet.

unless they spent all their previous 556 pre-order money on development and need cash to start filling those orders and paying creditors. so they do another pre-order to kick the can down the road. i mean they're still using a picture of a 556 gun in their 308 advertising. looks like it got them $175k just by doing an instagram presser and posting a pic of 308 round so i guess wc fields was right. the problem arises when they spend that money filling 556 orders and need cash to fill the 308 orders. they are gambling on selling a ton of 556 guns and breaking into the us market. the problem is that the siberian is going to give them a run in canada and the $600 AR is tough competition in 'merica. but it's not their money they are gambling with so not the worst short-term business decision i guess.

Yup. As long as they don't run into a Red Queen scenario where they're running twice as fast just to stay in place. It feels really shady to take pre-orders when they don't even have an image of the actual product, much less any video footage of range testing or anything along those lines.

“Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!”

-Alice Through the Looking Glass

I'm a fan. I own one of their firearms... I actually want them to succeed. This doesn't seem like the way to do it.

Never throw money at a pre-order unless you’re prepared to fight to get your money back. I just went through this with a seller that I will not mention. If you do choose to take this type of risk, use a credit card so that you’ll have recourse through a credit card dispute. Many shady vendors will tell you to pay in full for the pre-order and state “no cancellation” in their terms and conditions. This was the case with my situation, luckily the consumer protection legislation in my province was on my side.

Consumer Protection laws across the provinces are roughly the same and generally have a 30 day fulfillment rule which states that if a product is not delivered within 30 days of an “estimated delivery date” or “original transaction date” if no delivery date is provided, the consumer is entitled to a full refund. Also, if there is any misrepresentation of the product in any way, or the seller uses any “misleading practices” to market or attract investment into a product, the consumer is entitled to a full refund as well as the right to pursue legal recourse for misrepresentation.

Any sales contract entered into online is referred to as a “distance sales contract” which is null and void after 30 days of the consumer not receiving said product or service. All Canadian credit card companies are legally obligated to uphold the law with regards to all legislation outlined in the Consumer Protection Act of said province. I did win the dispute as the product which I pre-ordered was not delivered or fulfilled within the 30 day period. I kept a record of all the posted estimated delivery dates on the vendor’s website which were consistently false, and took screenshots of emails which proved the goalpost for the vapourware I ordered kept moving.

This is not legal advice, I simply wanted to bring attention to the reality that you do have recourse if you use a credit card in these situations. If you were unlucky enough to use an e-transfer or cash, you may have to fight for your money in small claims court. Just wanted to give some reassurance to those who might find themselves in this predicament. I recommend that everyone review the consumer protection legislation in their province.

The Templar would sell at around $1,700 or 1,800 and the Crux below $3K. But Bartok5 did us all a favour with his review pumping up demand. No offense intended, lol.

For what it's worth, the Sentinel(which is functionally the same as the Templar) went for around $1600 or so with a buffer tube and stock. That F5 "ACR" stock sells for $300usd and bumps the price up to what it currently sits at ($2000 with a milspec trigger). I'd imagine that if there was a demand, Crusader could offer the Templar with a buffer tube and stock at a lower price point since it would require no modification whatsoever.

They bumped up the price to $2,249.

I'm definitely still a ways out from getting mine (ordered Feb. 7) but curious if anyone has heard more on the backordered stocks and upcoming order fulfillment?

Don't be afraid to politely ping them once in a while. They are a small shop and I think they tend to respond to squeaky wheels more quickly... which is not a great way to go about things, but it seems to be what works for some people.

That’s with the trigger tech trigger not the milspec.

If anyone is looking at the Templar, I highly recommend the TriggerTech trigger. It's well worth the extra $250 to have it pre-installed and tested instead of getting it aftermarket and installed by a gunsmith after the fact.

Totally. Not like I've been neurotically checking my email for a shipment notification... trying to force myself to be patient but I'm really damn excited! I've got a pile of accessories waiting to be installed as soon as it arrives.

The more I've read about the trigger tech the happier I am that I decided to spring for it out of the gate.

I hear you, I was really excited about my Crusader 9 as well! I hope the combination of Crusader Arms order fulfillment and Canada Post delivery gets your Templar to you as soon as is humanly possible.
