Templar gen 2 review.
Full disclosures, I special ordered this rifle from CA with a standard size barrel (not a pencil barrel)
Upgrade list;
Trigger tech trigger
Trigger tech 45 throw safety
Starting from the beginning, I ordered on Feb 28/2024. Received it April 10/2024….
Was told 10-14 days from order I would have it shipped, took a little longer than that. But… CA did have DECENT communication with me, now I will say, on April 8-9 I emailed them saying I was thinking about cancelling my order via visa, and all of the sudden the barrels had arrived and I had my gun 2 days after letting them know if my intentions. Now to back up CA, they did go more in depth with me telling me about how there’s lots of sanctions and the Canadian border with gun parts…. Due to our government…. And they really aren’t sure when they get parts anymore. They did tell me they’ll order a bulk order of barrels and be told my customs it’s cleared and shipping, then be told it’s delayed… so on and so forth.
I gave them some advice and said they should be more clear with their customers and come out and let them know that…. I probably would’ve been content with waiting even longer had I had know those reasonings. Instead most of the time they would just tell me it’s shipping in a couple days… with no hope. Past this point. I wouldn’t say CA is horrible to deal with, they’re a group of gun people like us trying to make some pretty awesome guns. I just wish they’d be a little more clear with their orders on what’s going on. No harm no foul at the end of the day they made it happen for me and I was happy about it.
As for the review of the gun, I have 150 rounds through it (will be doing higher counts and future updates)
Not one malfunction so far, with the light duty trigger I put in it, I can get rounds flying very very fast. It handles all of them, ejecting and feeding with lots of positive force. All mags I tried worked flawlessly
(Pmag Gen 2-3) and cross mags.
Some people have reported machining flaws with theirs. I am happy to say mine has ALMOST no flaws. It only has 1 hairline mark by the pivot point on the lower. Hardly noticeable unless you’re looking for it. Doesn’t bother me, may bother others. But not a deal breaker.
The gun is built solid, zero play between upper and lower, which I really like… trying holding a SVR2 or WK. You’ll see the difference.
The whole gun is built tight, solid, and very nice.
Some report their stocks felt cheap, mine feels great no complaints.
Mine came in a very nice box, with lots of bubble wrap between parts, packaged solid, came with a “Manual” which is only a single piece of paper outlining the basics before shooting (where to oil) with a QR code to scan for the full read. Not a big deal to me as all my other firearm manuals are collecting dust. The rifle came with a 10/10 cross mag.
They even send you a sticker!
My positives are;
-Very Reliable (so far)
-Very well built with tight tolerances
-controls are nice. Love the AR paddle
My negatives are;
-The front end of my ejection port seems to get a lot of damage from spent casings. I believe it’s because this gun is over gassed. I’ve ordered a upgraded stiff ejector spring in hopes it’ll eject the casings more to the 3-4 o’clock position, as this gun ejects at about a 1:30-2 direction…. Thus sometimes the casing will clip the front end of the ejection port leaving little markings. Not the end of the world for me as this gun would only look better having a “battle worn” look.
That is my only negative for this gun. (So far)
I really enjoy this gun, it’s everything I wanted, it’s reliable, handles fast shooting well, built solid, feels good.
I’d recommend it. Will leave updates as round counts get higher and things work in more.
