The Varmints are coming!!!!

I was wondering if a 20" barrel build with A2 flash hider, A2 handguard, detach carry handle and triangular gas/front sight base could be an option on these? For a classic build

It would mean making a custom made barrel, but possible. The gas block would need to be modified and would use set screws rather than taper pins for attachment.

Hmmm. I apologize in advance if I offend anyone. Just a thought - what if ATR pick 3/4 different complete models and mass produced them to speed up production/volume and reduce cost to meet the need/want for these great rifles. i would imagine more rifles at a bit less cost would sell like crazy for this style of NR rifle in the Canadian market. The business model potential for this excites my CEO mind. Again sorry if I offend - not my intention. you have an amazing gun. For every one custom production rifle sold, there's probably 10's++++ that would purchase off the self a select few predetermined models.... no disrespect intended. Just a thought. I see 2 things that currently deter a frenzy for these rifles - a few hundred bucks per and the long wait for one. Just a fans thought.

Thing is these are not mass produced, and are made for quality, not entry level pricing. The slowness comes from both the attention to detail, and waiting on suppliers since most of the rifle is assembled from existing parts. (Barrels, furniture, triggers, etc.)

Really the only main parts completely made by ATRS are the upper and lower recievers, charging handle system, mag and bolt releases, and optional muzzle devices, while the rest is either fitted to thier platform from a premade part or directly bolted on.

From this stand point, the only thing that could drastically speed things up is more machine time, and having an inventory of supplies to build the rifles on hand. I know Rick has invested in more CNC and individuals to operate them, but I think he is concerned about warehousing a ton of inventory for a rifle that could be made illegal at the stroke of a pen along with every other black rifle in this country.

Some excellent points! But quality control does not have to be in slow mo for it to be good... and product sourcing does not have to be rocket science that can't be coordinating and organized... But let's agree to disagree on some points. Great point on the political uncertainty regarding guns in Canada. Liberalism is so touchy feely driven vs fact based common sense. 1 or a few incidents rules the day vs long term hard core stats. Liberals grrrr... Politicians grrr... lol.

Again it was just a thought. I do not know the swat on this company and product but one thing is for sure - there doing a great job producing one hell of a rifle! Congrats on your success ATR!!

Lean manufacturing techniques do not accumulate inventory. And they speed processes up. But it is a lot of energy and/or consultancy on behalf of the company. But, like a Toyota Tacoma, if the demand is high, it is worth it.

I was told in a recent email that the rest of the proof barrels were coming mid to late January, and rifles would be done shortly after, if that helps anyone else who is curious. Patience is a virtue, i know if i was dealing with this level of cross border bureaucracy id be smashing computers.

So many beautiful rifles in this thread!

Can anyone share any feedback about the Varmint's trigger?

It's listed as a "True Match grade"; are these the same triggers as the MH? (single stage, <4.5 lbs)
ATRS, given the proprietary design involved here, is it fair to say (and this is not a mark against the rifle!) that there won't be any other trigger options in the future?

The triggers are Timney single pin drop in AR style. 4.5# on the MH and 3.5# on the MV.

The Modern Hunters employ a 4 lb single stage Timney trigger, the Modern Varmints employ a 3 lb single stage Timney trigger. Both have no creep and very smooth let off unlike the standard triggers in milspec style ARs.
Timney now offers a 2 stage AR style trigger so this is now an option for those who prefer the 2 stage style triggers.

Due to the rifles design there is no other trigger that will work, without significant modification and the making of some parts. Neither of which we intend to do.

Oh Nice! This was the only other trigger option I was dreaming of; 2x stage! No other trigger option necessary.
My poor ACR money pit may not be long in my locker, thanks ATR!
