The "What Have You Reloaded Today" thread

Prepped and primed 100 45-70 cases

Cleaned a couple hundred each of nickel 9mm and 38Sp

Much more casting and loading to try to get through in the next month or two.

So last night I loaded some 44-40, but not your everyday 44-40. I have several rifles with the original .427" bore and I have 2 more modern ones with the .429 bore, my Miroku/Winchester 92 SRC and I have a pre 64 model 94....yes a 94, in 44-40 that I believe also has the .429 bore as it shoots terribly with the jacketed .427s that I tried. I picked up about 1000 of the 200 gn Win bulk .427 JSPs at WSS when they had them so I'm set for the old girls........with 9.5 gns of Unique behind them they shoot very well in the originals. So I just picked up about 400 of the 210 gn JHP Winchester bulk .429 a year or so ago, but had no empty cases to load, as I had them all loaded with the .427 bullets. Last week the kid and I managed to empty 50 of them so now I shall try these 210 gn .429s in the modern 44-40s. I have selected a Waters favorite load with 21 gns of 4227 and a CCI 300. These bullets are a shiny silver and are real "purdey", hope they shoot as good as they look.........

Then I decided to make some proper brass for my 2 Win 95s in 30-03, no not 303, 30-03 which is the original development of the 30-06 in 1903, and is identical except for neck length. The 30-03 has a case length of 2.54" instead of the 2.49" of the '06, other than neck length the two cartridges are identical. So rather than just fire '06 from my 30-03s I decided to make some correct cases for it. I happened to have 100 new W-W nickel 280 Rem cases so I pushed the shoulder back on 50 of them with the '06 sizer die until they chambered in the one with the tightest headspace and then I loaded them up with a max load of Varget and Fed 215s and 139 gn Horn BT. I did not expand the necks first as I don't like doing this. I'd rather blow them out by fire forming them as they come out more concentric, I have found. I also have 100s of 7mm bullets that I don't use so I loaded up 50 and now I will have some fun making 30-03 cases.

I was bored today and it was coooooold out with a biting north wind so I decided I had 81 sized and cleaned 30-06 cases, all mixed headstamps and some were converted 270s even. I primed them all up and then loaded them with H 4831 SC and a myriad of 150 gn bullets I had kicking around, some Rem round nose, some Win Silver Tips, some Rem bulk corelockt and some old Nosler Solid Base. These are just for running through my 95 Wins and open sights for plinking so I thought what the hell, let's get rid of a bunch of "odds and ends" and get some more pop can time with the old girls. I'd be willing to bet they all shoot more or less (3-4") the same at 100 mtrs. Regardless one just has to adjust his sight picture slightly to accommodate, such is the luxury or iron sights.
I have many hundreds of 30-06 loaded up with all matching W-W headstamps and all using Sierra 180 gn FB and all weighed charges........but I hate having empty brass kicking around so I thought this might prove interesting and empty a bunch of partial boxes of bullets I had taking up space on my over crowded bullet shelf.

Went to town today and reloaded 400 rounds of 45 ACP, and 100 30-30 cases sized and primed for future test loads.

Yesterday it was 300 7.62x39, and the day before that, 300 more 7.62x39.

Keeping busy to say the least! Fun stuff!

Giving some Fiocchi 243 brass a try. They came primed, but no idea how old they are and I didn't want to have weird ignition, pierced primers, or who knows what else. And really, it's like $3 worth of primers, so popped them and junked them. Brass looks ok, flash holes are a little rough but cleaned up easy, no worse then WIN/REM/FED anyway. It's pretty thick brass, so hopefully it will handle a few loadings. If it works good, i may get some more.

Max Owner:

I have been shooting some different rifles than my norm the last couple of years. It keeps the sport of shooting fresh and maintains my interest. The 30-30 is a Savage 99 EG built in the early 1930's, the 7.62x39 is a Ruger M77 Hawkeye compact.

I also have had a JR Carbine for about 4-5 years now. I had the typical issues of terrible reliability with the feeding. Did some modifications and a new buffer weight, and the little carbine hasnt had a single miss feed in over 500 rounds! So I did some load development with some 230's, and got it shooting very tight groups at 50 yards. It really suprised me! Now its fun!

So load up some extra ammo for the summer was in order! Tomorrow I may go out and test some 185 XTP's.

I had a friend drop off a 100 of .270 WSM brass (which I have never reloaded), he had a meeting to go to and was going to come back in a few hours. He thought I could tumble it, reload some rounds, and be trotting off to the range with him by the time I got back. Laugh2 I told him there is a little more involved.
