The "What Have You Reloaded Today" thread

Got bored and loaded 100 rounds of 350 RM today. This is not as straight forward as it sounds because I have to clip the tips off 225 Nosler ABs and then file them nice and flat and square. Anyway I've been putting this off until I was bored today and decided to get at it. The brass was all prepped and primed it was just a matter of weighing out the powder and seating and modifying the bullets............now it's done and I have 140 loaded rounds for my Mod 7 KS 350 RM.

I know you are asking yourself why is he cutting and filing the tips off the ABs.........because the max magazine length is 2.82 so in order to not have to seat the bullet below the start of the ogive, I must remove the tips and seat to 2.80. I have found they shoot outstanding if I just eliminate the poly tip and they fit nicely into the magazine, and they are also devastating killers with that small flat meplat instead of the poly spritzer tip. I don't know how many black bears I have killed with it but it is in the dozens and I have never had to track a one.

What do the bullets weigh in at after clipping? How do you keep them uniform?
 
KJ........the clipped portion weighs 3 grns..........I keep them uniform by clipping them slightly long and filing them flush to the jacket. The jacket noses on ABs are extremely uniform and my COAL varies less than .003". I also work with the knowledge that tip shape or misshape if you like, makes virtually no difference within the first 300 mtrs.
This is my bear gun for camping and hunting black bears which are normally shot inside 100 to maybe 200 mtrs. These bullets and cartridge perform well beyond their size/weight class, I have found. I have shot several blackies at a distance of feet with this rifle and load and have gotten over 4 feet of penetration at basically point blank, muzzle velocity impact.
My son and a friend just went out and took 2 huge bull bison a couple weeks ago, both will make B&C and his buddy used his 350 RM loaded with 220 Speer HC that looks almost identical in the nose shape as my clipped ABs. Anyway he said that 350 absolutely sacked that big bull with one shot at about 150 mtrs, he was duly impressed because his took 2 from his 300 RUM. Probably didn't need the second but he didn't sack like the one shot with the 350. And no the 350 shot was not a CNS shot is was a body shot, the kid said it was extremely impressive and the bull just flopped. He has another buddy that uses a 375 H&H and he said the 350 was even more impressive than the 375 on a very similar hit.

That sharpish edge doesn't catch on the feed ramp then, eh? I had a Win 88 (308) that didn't like soft points that were too blunt up front and would catch on the feed ramp.
 
If you're into the extra work SB, I highly recommend this bullet in the 350. The Ruger mag is a touch longer in the short action, I don't recall how much, but that was what I made my 375-350 RM on and I know it was longer than the short 700 or Mod 7.
I load mine with 3031 and a CCI 250 and get great accuracy and velocity out of the 20" barrel. I tried all the appropriate powders and 3031 gave me the best overall performance under a heavily compressed load. The ES is in single digits IIRC, and it shoots right around MOA @ 100 mtrs, as mentioned the COAL is 2.80 with the tip removed.........I have no idea where the lands are, as the magazine determines the max COAL.
 
Lordy! That's a lot of ammo!! How many pounds of powder did you go through? How do you store so much ammo? (At that quantity I think I'd be down to stuffing ziplock freezer bags lol)
 
Made 40 rounds to dial in a load for 223 in my AR.

CamPro 55gr 223, PMC Brass, Winchester Primers and IMR 3031. 10 rounds each of 22.5gr,23gr,23.5gr & 24gr.

You are the definition of dedication and perseverance. That would be a crazy workout even on a turret. Even on a progressive it's a big run for sure. How many hours did it take?

A couple winters ago I loaded 1200 45 ACP on my Rockchucker..........immediately upon completion of this task I ordered a Hornady LNL with case feeder..........much more efficient, besides I'm getting old and time is getting more precious every year.......
 
Like many others, I started out with a Rock Chucker along with a Uniflo powder measure 30+ years ago. After about 10 years I almost gave up reloading due to how tedious it was. Lots of folks will say you will always need a single stage. When I switched to a turret and RCBS Chargemaster, it was like coming out of the darkness. Reloading became fun. Then added a Pro1000 for pistol loads, and wondered why I waited so long. And just recently added a Loadmaster and Auto Drum powder measure for high volume rifle, and really appreciate the time saving it offers.

So when people say you will never outgrow a quality single stage, I sure did.
 
To be honest, I have no total on hours put in, but it was time consuming to say the least. This year has been a bit of a "transition phase", and the time behind the press handle has been therapeutic.

I prepped 75% of my brass late last year, but just started to load about three weeks back. I would try to get through 200-500 per night after work; more on the weekend. Powder, I'm just into my fifth jug of H335. I store all my ammo in rubber sealed ammo cans (thanks Canada Ammo).
Now that I can cut down on my component purchasing, maybe I can get the much needed progressive, even if the timing of it IS back-assward.

Anyone have the number of a support group?

Hats off to you. I thought I accomplished something when I loaded 1,500 rounds of .223 over two weeks on my Lee Breech Lock Classic Cast back in December. Well done.

I really need to consider a turret or progressive...

At any rate, yesterday I neck sized a bunch of .303 British...took it easy this weekend. Too much loading and not enough unloading these days.
 
I just finished a batch of a couple hundred 7x64 Brenneke, with 160 gr. Sierra boat tails and IMR 4831. At 2880 fps they are accurate and fast in my Sako 85 Bavarian.
 
Did up some new loads I wanna play with in the next couple of weeks, if the weather lets me.
