The worse rifle you ever owned

Worst rifle I've ever owned, Remington 597, would not cycle more than three shots without a malf.

Worst rifle I've ever worked on, Remington Nylon 76, .22LR Lever Action. 23 hours bench time and neither myslef or the senior 'smith could get it to function. Just a nightmare to assemble and time.

I dunno, i have a remington 597 and it shoots amazing, you have to break into it. Out of the box my jammed pretty frequently i hated it, but sooner or later it works like a charm, i love it to death wouldn't trade it for anything and it's super accurate. Depends what ammo you use, Winchester and Remington ammo is the worst!

If you still own that 597 I am pretty sure I know what is wrong with it. In the trigger group one of the bars can be either in a high or low position, try it the other way - bet you it will solve the problem.

The 2 worst rifles (out of several hundred) were the only 2 Ruger 77's I ever bought. Thought the first one was an anomaly. Bought a second one and same lack of fit, finish, and function. Swore off 77's. Have beautiful #1 though...

2 of the best rifles I ever owned were 788's

Back in 1964, i bought a new in box (1962) model 94 in .30 wcf. after 2 rounds, it would constantly drop a round UNDER the ramp. my dad got my money back, including the cost of the box of shells. its taken 45 years to BREAK DOWN and purchase another model 1894 (1871-1971 NRA centennial model) it was cheap and has a 26" barrel.with a williams apature site,it shoots 2-2.5" at 100. works for me.

Nothing tops the Dominion Backpacker. Great idea for a gun and looked like fun but fell apart on every shot. the fore stock would fall off from the recoil and pins were always coming loose.

Remington CT105 II auto-loader. I had one and had nothing but problems with it. Failure to cycle, failure to extract, jams necessitating a complete tear down of a loaded gun at the range etc. As it was still under warranty I contacted Remington and sent it back to their Canadian agent; Gravel Agency. They confirmed it was defective and promised me a new one from their inventory. 2 days later I got a call that Remington had discontinued the model and that they could not locate a replacement in Canada. They did find 18 in the US, but they all suffered from the same problem...
To make things "right" they offered me a replacement gun of 1/2 the value I paid for my CT105 ($700 versus $ 1369 to be precise). When I protested they simply repeated the offer. When I got really mad they wanted to give the merchant I bought the gun from an in-store credit. I countered that the warranty agreement was between me and Remington, not the merchant and that I did not want to be limited to whatever the merchant decided to carry or battle them to get my money back. Finally, after threatening to sue them, Remington "rethought its position" and promised to refund me the purchase price. I am still waiting for my money...:mad:

That sucks. How long have you been waiting for your money? years?

Man i hear some bad stuff about remington. i know thier higher end bolt guns are like the gold standard but it seems like that's all they care to make with any degree of quality. they are slowly ruining marlins' reputation as a quality rifle, their rimfire ammo just plain sucks, and well the VTR and regular 597?... if i read ONE moe complaint i just might write remington myself on behalf of all the disgruntled owners out there.

No, it is not that bad. It has been 2 weeks since they promised to cut me a cheque. The whole process left a bad taste in my mouth, though.
Every company occasionally will have a product that does not live up to expectations; this I can understand. What really matters is whether they stand by their product and make it right. As far as I am concerned Remington does not.

Well I know what rifle I won't be buying now.

My 597 cycles fine aslong as it is clean.
The barrel on the other hand had a pitted bore, a burred crown, a front sight that was put on crooked, and a firing pin dent in the breech.
Remington gave me the run around on the warranty. The dealer said "No problem" just bring it in and wait for judgment day to arrive before you get it back.
I ended up fixing it myself with a little help from my old neighbor, fellow CGN'r wlj.

Buddy gave me a Bubba Mosin Nagant 91/30, barrel shortened to 22 inches, bolt handle cut off and welded down by someone in Grade 8 shop class, and rechambered to .308 Winchester. I took it apart and threw the receiver and barrel away, keeping the bolt and trigger/mag assembly for parts.

You can't safely rechamber a 7.62x54R into 308 WIN! First the barrel is .312" not.308" and second (more importantly) the 7.62x54R has a larger case. When rechambered to 308WIN part of the original chamber will still be intact! Can you say incipient casehead separation?!

Without a doubt the worst rifle I ever owned was a Boito 410 with a 12" barrel.....couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if you were standing inside it

Savage 110 hands down. Grouped like a shotgun and clunky. My son had a Remington 710 and it was actually a good shooter.

My wife's mini 14 is more effective at scaring the coyotes that take her poultry than it is at hitting them.

Most accurate factory guns? - My tikkas - no contest.

I have had a 710, and have a 111 and a stevens 200.

The remmy can't even compare in quality to the savages, mine did shoot though.

When I worked at CFB Moose Jaw there were a small group of very very cheap deer hunters at the EME section, and others that worked the flight line, that would do exactly this. They fired .308 Winchester cartridges in Moisin Nagant rifles.

They say it worked........but this is not anything I would do, nor would I advise others to do so.

One could almost believe they were even using 7.62 NATO FMJ, but this would be a guess only on my part.

The worst I had was a rem 798 in 270 win. I bought it new but the first time I took it out it wouldn't feed. It would just mash the tip of the bullet into the edge of the chamber. The dealer took it back and gave me another which functioned fine and shot very well but the trigger was terrible and it never got used.
