thinking of a dual purpose light recoil high performance rifle for deer and yotes.

I vote for the 6.5x55. I love mine and 95gr vmax's can blow smaller things up just fine. 140gr partitions are pretty awesome too. Good luck collecting one from a deer unless you shot it lengthwise.

Look up bcsteve's .264 bullet test on here. It's full of great info on the 6.5 bullets available.

I have a pair of Ruger Hawkeyes in .257 Roberts, one that is sighted with 75 V-max at 3500 and one that shoots 120 partitions for deer at 2800 ish. Love the cartridge. Ya there are faster, flatter shooting cartridges out there but the deer and yotes don't seem to care. I have two boys that these are destined for and cant think of a better cartridge for a new hunter or even a seasoned veteran who know how to properly place a bullet. Got both from EE with reloading supplies for a great deal and the ruger seems built to be passed down instead of recycled like some of the junk built these days.

If you're not totally in love with the 234 Penguin, then may I suggest the 257 Wby, this is the longest reaching, flattest shooting and hardest hitting of the dual purpose cartridges, with bullet weights from somewhere down around 60 gns at over 4000 fps right up to 120 gn good hunting bullets at 3500 fps. Of the 3 I have had all would shoot into 3/4" and better at 100 mtrs. My current Rem 700 CDL SF will do the 3 shot 1/2 moa thing, when I do my part, with boring regularity with 110 gn ABs

Either 25 cal is a great round for coyotes and deer. Don't over look the 250 savage if a kid will be shooting it. They are almost recoil free.

All these no recoil rifles facinate me.....

You are quite easily fascinated, but you're right: "no recoil" is impossible or at least impractical.

One could make a double barreled rifle, with the two barrels pointed in opposing directions with a single firing mechanism that fired both barrels at the same time - there would be recoil forces at work but they would cancel each other out in theory. No recoil....

Flat out 6.5 x 55 hand loads
this gun loaded correct is a monster killing machine
great penitrating power 3 white tail and 1 elk this year
all had hard ball size exit wounds
My 6.5 way built as a long range elk gun and
is grouping 5 shot at .5 of an inch at 300 yards
no recoil with 140 garingers moving at 2950 fps
im getting 1000 ft lbs at 1000 yards
good for a deer at 1000 yards and a elk at 600

Roger that, and there is a guy up here, his rifle groups .5 inch at 500, and is good for caribou and moose out to 1200.

That's a coincidence - I know a guy that has a rifle that groups .5" at 500 yds, too. Maybe it's the same guy - is his name Lyon Bole-Scheatter?

.243W ... ammunition is available everywhere ... 95/100gr loads do very well for Whitetail and 85gr (and smaller) loaded down "can" come very close to 6PPC accuracy. Of course no one wants to load "down" ... but it is an overlooked option that delivers.
