This .22LR shortage is starting to piss me off.

I agree it sure is a PI$$ off!

Surely they can produce more, but for some reason don't bother..... Everytime I drive by a Wholesale Sports or Cabelas, or Crappy Tire I stop to have a look...

Supply & demand. If people are willing to shell out over $40.00 for a brick of supposedly "budget" ammo the price will never drop. And yes, I do shoot less because of the price of ammo and not just the 22 stuff.

Last two boxes i bought were about the same - one federal one Remington. $40 and $45 each. Paid $29 for the federal less than a year ago, and Wal-Mart occasionally has it for $26... sadly it's still way cheaper than any real ammo...

I recently picked up 5000 rounds of CCI Mini Mag for $400 out the door. That's about $100 more than I would like to pay but I was down to my last few thousand rounds and wasn't sure when I would see any decent 22lr again.

yea I actually don't have any .22lr ammo for the first time since i became a gun owner, I couldn't justify paying $45 for a brick of CCI mini mags.. To me $25 a brick of m22 was more expensive than it should be, but I was willing to pay it. now M22 is like $65 per 1000 rounds

the sad fact is that demand in the US market is too high and if you are the distributor, why export it when you can sell it at home. The more folks try to hoard it, the tighter the supply and up goes the price. Canada is a secondary market when it comes to firearms, ammunition and accessories. The small size of our actual market makes it more expensive for companies to export gun parts, add the legislation component and we cant get much of what we desire up here unless we choose to pursue through a dedicated broker etc.

It isn't the local market setting the high price on the ammo, the dealers are paying inflated prices as well, we as the consumer are stuck, either you want it or not and you pay what they ask or you don't get it.

I was just forced to pay $39 for 500 rnds. of thunderbolt. Its either that or go without. Is this going to end anytime soon?

The "shortage" will be sure to end eventually.
Unfortunately I think the higher prices are here to stay
Hopefully prices come down a bit, but who knows.

Longer version of "Supply & Demand".
Just razzing ya! :p

I am just going to have to buy two bricks every time and put one away for a rainy day. If i ever see federal again I will buy more. Remington pretty much sucks but its better than nothing I suppose.
