This .22LR shortage is starting to piss me off.

Hmmm....

I remember in 2011-2012, after the last "drought" was well and truly finished, I was at a gun show(s) in Thompkins SK, Swift Current and and few others..... American eagle 38gr HP was aplenty, $180 a case iirc (18.00/ brick), which I thought was a bit high, but not "gouging" high...... So I bought 2 cases here and a couple there.... I found a small hunting store in Gull Lake SK that was selling them for $22, so I passed, the LGS in speedy creek was selling AE 38hp for $185/ case so I bought 2 cases a month there for the spring n summer of 2012...... At the same time CT in swift was selling cci blaser for $25/ brick. I was buying 2 bricks of that a month over the same time period.......

I'm currently down to my last 2 cases of AE and I have a paltry 20 bricks of cci blaser and a few thousand rnds of misc other mixed types of 22lr ammo.......

Surely I'm not the only one who foresaw the current "shortage"...... I'm "the guy" at the club others hit up when they can't find anything on store shelves.

I just picked up 7000 rounds of .22lr for 350 bucks. was at the right place at the right time. They just got it in. ppl were buying it by the case.

I acted around the same time as you and started buying cases when I saw deals or what I considered good prices. I currently have at least 10 cases of assorted brands and loads, not counting open cases. Sorry to rub it in but I laugh at the current "shortage" or what ever you want to call it. Not a hoarder or profiteer, just a guy who saw it coming (for once) and stocked up when the getting was good.

Unfortunately due to an injury I have not been shooting much at all, maybe that's what I get for being smug...

I was just forced to pay $39 for 500 rnds. of thunderbolt. Its either that or go without. Is this going to end anytime soon?

Sadly, $40 per 500 rd brick for .22lr is likely the new norm. For years .22 was "cheap" to shoot compared to centerfire ctgs.

"Shortage" real or not, once retailers get us used to $40 per brick the days of $17 bricks of Winchester Wildcat will be when we talk about the "good old days".

Just my .02

NAA.

I don't buy much dedicated "target" ammo for my .22's as I've been content in the past just finding the best bulk ammo that performs well.
Has the price of quality target grade .22lr also nearly tripled in price in the last 5 years?

@$40 a box for the "cheap" stuff at some point a person might as well pay a little more and get better ammo!

CCI mini mags held their price for a while as the bulk stuff went up but now it's increased as well.

The price of quality pellets has gone up a little in the last 5 years but it hasn't doubled or tripled.

It's greed.

Started with the oil/gas companies just making up prices to suite their pockets and once other industries saw that it was ok to step away from "supply and demand" they have followed along..... it's the "new deal"

It is a gong show trying to find any ammo here these days, at least center fire I can reload. Phoned a local store to see if they had some bricks in. Was told they got some bricks of Federal in for $45/brick!! Last time I bought some it was $28/brick and I thought that was criminal. Makes me want to sell my .22 as the only thing I like it for is plinking and even that is getting too expensive these days.

He's probably talking CCI Quiet at Bullseye.

Gobels had some mini mags for $10 each last week, I bought the last 3 and then kicked myself for falling for the hype...I already have 1000 mini mags that I won't shoot because I can't find mini mags. That's effed up logic I've got.

now the brick of CCI velocitors from Kelly's...that one I was pretty happy about ;)
