This is why you should always detail strip a new gun

I didn't inspect the pictures well enough, but I know STI likes to ship their products with a weird brown-rust like appearance grease. It was all over my STI Trubor when I got it. Cleaned up fine with Hoppes.

It's possibly residue from rust bluing...I can't tell if the tear sight is parkerised like the rest of the gun?

Why would a Canadian Distributor "look after" this problem, when you clearly did an end run around them?

It has nothing to do with where I bought it, most manufacturers designate a Canadian company to handle their warranty work, it avoids having to ship the gun to the manufacturer, which in most cases is in the U.S.

I purchased a used spartan and the front fiber optic looked cloudy, just like yours. I traded it away. I just purchased a Nork NP22 , funny the Nork's finish looks perfect!

That would be nice if thats all it is, a good cleaning and your done.

That thing is rusted, and rust does not start out of the blue. So it's been either previously enjoyed and stored wet, or stored wet, or with condensation due to changes in temperature.
Not too hard to believe in Canada.

Excess oil in a brand new gun is always a bad sign, that means monkey business, someone trying to hide something trying to make it look 'fresh and shiny'.

New guns have barely any oil, maybe some packing grease in key areas.

I would return that thing for a full refund ASAP.

More good news, just got an email from STI, they are going to send me a new sight, no questions asked. Person that emailed me said it would be shipped out tomorrow. So I'll hold of on sending the slide to Freedom Ventures and wait for the new sight to show, saves me from sending the slide with Canada Post.

I get a kick out of all the "I'll never buy another x again" comments. While in many cases it may be true, but realistically every company has botched products for sale. Everyone whines about overpriced blah blah because QC is not readilly apparent when comparison shopping. Then when they do get a lemon because they don't want to pay 15 pct more for a QC version, they make "never buy again" threats.

Judge a company and their products by their ability to make thing right one you've alerted them to a fault.

You're right, it was a knee jerk reaction on my part.

This is exactly the kind of service STI is known for.
