Thoughts on 1911 in 9mm?

I'm not a super keen handgunner but a few years ago I bought a Norinco Np-28 9mm/1911. Never shot it much but wanted it for friends to shoot. It's not pretty but it works fine. I recently started a shooting business in Whistler and it's digested over 2000 rounds of ammo in the last few weeks. Seems to work fine although I think I will clean it now. Only real problem is today a client dropped a mag and bashed the end off - which dissapeared along with the spring.

No question my Para 14-45 LTD is a much nicer 1911 and I enjoy shooting it much more, but my cheapo 9mm 1911 works, and the clients seem to enjoy shooting it, too.

I bought a Norinco NP-28 9m/m about 14 years ago because there were no .45ACP Norinco's in Canada at the moment. Actually was a very nice combo and very accurate and functioned perfectly. Wasn't crazy about the big grip because of the double-stack mag so sold it as soon as I found a Norinco .45 Commander. A Commander in 9 m/m would be sweet.

I'd love this in 9mm.

I bought my 9mm Trojan specifically for IPSC Classic and it's a great pistol for that purpose. It likes round nose FMJ's the best. Anything like a flat point or truncated cone design gives the odd feed failure (nose dive into the ramp). The only problems I've ever had with it were ammo related. Once I got that figured out, it ran like a champ. Dawson front site, Aftec extractor, STI mag well and Tripp mags round it out.

I too, prefer a Commander length 1911 for the 9mm platform.

I never considered using it in classic division. Can you use it with the magwell ? Still need the F.O. front sight though.

Girly gun.

Dare I say it?

I just did. ;)

Btw I did have opportunity to put quite a few rounds through a USA made 1911 in 9mm and with ball ammo it rarely ran a full mag without something or other stopping.

The 1911 was designed for a full power cartridge like the .45 ACP.

PARA ORDNANCE BLACK OP RECON 9.18 (4.25" bbl) 9mm

That Para or the full size in double stack 9mm goodness would be soooo sweet. I could only find the .45 available in Canada, and to be honest, even though I am a Para O fan, I was just too afraid to drop the coin on one from the States with all the negative press lately. So I opted for a Sig X-5 sao Tactical model. I still prefer the 1911 platform though.

Para O reputation was no hell when the guns were made in Canada either. My son has one of the early double stack .45acp's that has been excellent. I has a SSP which was something less than good. The slide peened at the slide stop notch. Went back to Para for fixing and came back with the same issue. Sent it down the road.

Take Care

I love my Colt Combat Commander in 9mm. Had a Night Commander as well, but traded some years ago. I use Wilson Combat or Tripp Cobra mags pretty much exclusively. The only others remotely worth bothering with are Mec-Gar. Same goes for my .38 Supers and. 45s

My older generation Norc NP-29 has been super reliable with all the ammo I have run through it including JHPs.

I rarely clean it and it just keeps going without FTEs or FTFs.

It has been as reliable as my GLOCK17 and that says a lot!

I even had it on my last ATC and carried it a couple of times in an M7 rig.

Maybe it is a girl gun but I still like a reliable 9mm 1911.

True it was designed for the .45,however the right 1911 in 9mm will function just as reliably.I have both .45 and 9...Nice to shoot both...
