Thumbs down to this hunt.

Nope, it's a video, I am not defending anyone, also I have forgot more about hunting, fishing and trapping than most on this board. It is the ethical police that give all hunters a bad name.

you're very confused if you believe the "ethical police" are the ones giving hunters a bad name. the idiots taking low percentage shots and flock shooting are the ones that leave more wounded game in the bush and tend to "hunt" like buddy in the video.

he may have been targeting a specific animal, but shooting at that one animal while it's running with the rest of the herd like that is reckless. if you can't see why shooting at a herd of elk like he did was a bad idea, you shouldn't be hunting.

Time to lay down, brain is sleeping, fingers are typing.

i guess that explains some of your posts...:p

anyone bother reading the comments? it appears that he's not getting much support, except from a select few CGN members here whom apparently believe as long as you're pulling the trigger, it's the way thing's should be done.

who left this comment? :D

Contact bearing 3-0-0, engage! engage!
Second Contact bearing 2-1-0 engage! engage!

Multiple contacts! Goddammit they have our position surrounded, looks like we are going to have to shoot our way out of this one!

Change in the ROE, anything with fur and a wet nose is declared hostile!

I just watched the video again, full screen, with sound, and at max resolution. Its pretty obvious that he's not shooting at the same animal over and over again. This infuriates me to no end.

To the comments about the animals being close, I agree. I'd say we are looking at a distance of between 50 and 100 yards. Only reason I can say this is because I had the opportunity to check out one of these cameras through work yesterday, and the lens is VERY wide angle.

It would be interesting to know just how you came to this assumption, because it's a pretty big one.

All you have to do spend a day here you will come up with the same. I don't hunt like the guy in the video. But it is a video, he is hunting. People who don't like hunting, don't care what kind it is. Long shots, short shots, one shot, many shots. It is killing of an animal..

Something to add...

This is what I have heard.....not what I have done.

Apparently when "Flock Shooting" if you get the "lead Cow" the other Elk will become disoriented and not know where to run.....the Elk in the video seemed to be running in circles???

Anyone know if this is true???

I've heard this before too, but haven't seen it actually happen.

On the other hand, I have observed 'similar' behaviour in Antelope. Last time I was drawn, I managed to sneak up on a group in a snow storm. I shot the lead buck with my muzzleloader and the rest of the group didn't know what to do; they ran around disoriented. Could have been the behaviour you describe, but it also could have been the fact that it was snowing and they didn't know where I was or what was happening.

Either way, 'flock shooting' is bad practice, and is just begging for a visit from the f*ck up fairy.

Or the wounding of many animals, that's the point. It's not about liking or disliking hunting.

Okay..so we see a guy take more than one shot, I guess he shouldn't use a mag either? He didn't hit anything from what we see, we can't see him wound anything. What the hell is wrong with shooting till you hit one, Isn't that what magazines that hold more than one shell are for? I had a scope f**k up on me once, I had to use 2 mags to get the deer, was I proud? no.Were there 2 guys watching me? yes.Thinking this guy can't shoot, I felt like an idiot. We don't know enough about the video say anything. You think he would have kept shooting if the first was a bang flop? I suppose everyone here would have shot once with 30 Elk running around in circles in the field. Would it have been different if 1 was standing there?
I am so done in this thread...must be better to just sit on the couch and ##### at other hunters.

Could be a case of bad buck fever. Im not justifying it at all dont get me wrong , i would keep shooting but only if i could be sure it was the same animal, Which clearly he couldn't of been.

my buddy had something similar happen when he shot a deer from a treestand. Deer didn't drop on the first shot like he was use to them and so he took two quick panic shots. fortunatly he calmed down and made the fourth count. It doesn't always work out like one would hope.

Again let me emphazise im not supporting the actions of this guy but simply stating that instead of him being a baby killing villian like some are making him out to be , he could just be inexperinced and flustered

He was likely using a .270 and the bullets were bouncing off at that distance........
