Hey guys, sorry to post yet another Tikka T3x thread but I just have a couple more questions. So I am pretty dead set on getting a T3x Battue, and I'm going to order the walnut stock and keep an eye out for a synthetic stock later on.
My dilemma is between .308 and 30-06, I know this is a age old dilemma and I don't want to go into the difference between the two cartridges (I actually know them anyways). My question is what cartridge suits this smaller carbine rifle better? With the synthetic stock this rifle weighs 6.5 pounds and with wood it's almost 7 pounds. This rifle from what I understand is built on a long action anyways so if I have to carry that long action should I just opt for the 30-06? On the other hand am I better off going with the slightly less potent .308 for a short lightweight carbine like the Battue?
I am going to be using it to hunt moose, deer and black bear in Ontario in some pretty thick bush. Most shots are under 100 yards and quite often at moving animals. Yes I will be buying one of those quick detach Masi bases with a scope for 100-200 yard shots if sitting on a meadow.
So can you see any advantages or disadvantages with the .308 vs 30-06 in the T3x Battue specifically? Thanks
