I will post some pics of the rifle after I take off the God-awful illuminated reticle scope a former owner found necessary to mount on the classic - and I do mean CLASSIC - Schultz and Larsen M54j

I think Fudds will say "Oh, buddy, ya don't want one of THOSE! You'll never find ammo at the gas station a hundred miles from nowhere when you forget your ammo! Get a .30-06!"

Really cool choice!

Generally the term fudd is used for someone who does not own prohib/restricted pistols or prohib/restricted long guns. (certainly black rifles)
Basically an elmer fudd only has long guns that he can actually game hunt with.

Actually I do own a few revolvers and pistols although the closest I ever got to a "Black rifle" was a Mini-14 and a Remington Apache .22. (Beautiful rifle - black stock and chrome barrel and receiver - but I sold it many years ago when the baby needed new shoes.) . ;)

Don't tell the other Fudds though as they will want my membership card back ............... ;)

Moose medallion in 3 2 1......................

Probably, but to tell the truth I would give my left nut to own half the rifles that John does! His tastes run close to my own.

I know I am going to get slagged for this but most of what I hear about Fudds is probably coming from people who go to the range and start blasting away they are loud they disturb others on the range either by being messy, disregarding the rules, unsafe,
or acting like teenage hoods. Now when I go shooting I am there to enjoy myself doing something I like, being aware others are using the range.waiting for everyone to finish shooting before changing targets, not being loud and distrubing others, and above all acting in a safe manner, If there are people already shooting I wait till they are done before even setting up.You can have your fun but remember your idea of fun maynot be everones. And I will say this if I don't like the way people at the range are acting I pack up and leave them too it.

No, the essence of a Fudd is someone who will actively try to stop anyone using or owning a gun that they do not approve of. Since they cannot conceive of what enjoyment could be had from whatever gets their panties in a twist they will throw that gun owner under the bus without a second thought.

The type of people you describe are A-holes. Just like every walk of life there are A-holes wherever you go. Fudds are much more insidious and harmful.

To the O.P. enjoy your new baby and the Apache Black Remington 66 is the best. Seneca Green, pah!

I never really considered myself a fudd until now....jeez....:confused:I don't get it. ....all I own is long guns:eek:....I have no problem with handguns or prohibs....now I'm a fudd....that sucksd:h:

The whole Fudd thing is just a joke guys.

We are ALL shooters regardless what we use to propel bullets down the range or towards a deer or gopher.

Elitism is for fly-fishers ............ not shooters. ;) LoL

Only that some are serious. By some definition I guess I am a fudd too. Only own long guns, and none of them black.

Do we need our own section?

You know what, I think we all have a slightly different vision of what a fudd is, so I guess there is no right or wrong, but my perspective of the stereotypical cgn fudd is someone who protests anything synthetic, composite or stainless, anything magnum or larger than an"ought six".

One thing I do like about this site is there is not alot of general complaining (in comparison to other sites), I think the term fudd usually just comes out when there's a lot of whining.

No, along with the title of fudd, to be a bona fide fudd, one must look down thier own nose at other shooting sports such as IPSC or 3 Gun, service rifle or CAS/SASS or metallic handgun silhouette or bullseye pistol events. Sorry for that rather important omission fellas!

my meager opinion only

I resent that. :D:p I have my Pal and RPAL, but have only had it in my grubby little hands since the week before this past xmas..... so far I only have non-res... Reason, I rather go target shoot out in the bush.. Personal preference..... So when they change the laws back  I will be all over a 1911 and some kind of AR to plink with...

Ya ya... Don't hold my breath... I am 38 and probably won't see it in my lifetime....

oh... and I do have a Fudd gun... a double barrel sxs remington 1900 that I nicknamed, the Elmer Fudd gun...

enough rambling from me for now... Carry on. :D

No, you aren't. Brutus's original comment missed the essence of Fudd, which is the attitude that certain types of guns and those who like them are not legitimate and shouldn't be allowed.

Dastard, you got me..........:HR:
I had to looky at that head stamp and go WTF?
I owned one of those.....................:p
That Re has me thinking that brass was offered by Norma as reloading
brass?

^Once again, sorry for the important omission guys!

No worries, I was just being a smart-a$$.....I know exactly what the term means, and come nowhere close to being one.....if someone at the range ask's if I want to try their handgun, prohib, muzzleloader, cannon, etc, I'm all over it:D....I'm just in a situation where I simply can't afford it:(

BINGO! ....... There you have it in a nutshell.

There's a few jerks with attitude on both sides, although more so with the ninjas. ;)

.

Perhaps, but the guy who is willing to have handguns and ARs banned so that he continue to hunt deer once a year with his '94 Winchester is a bit of a problem IMHO; antis come in many forms. The whole Fudd thing points out the divided nature of the recreational firearms community, "My gun is good, but I don't like the look of yours so it should be banned." We need to agree amongst ourselves at least that there are just guns; there is no such thing as a good gun or a bad gun.
