I ordered 2 of these from www.sirmailorder.com. I intend to set them up on some game trails in the areas, where I hunt deer, moose, bear etc...

I'm told that these Bushnells are really user friendly and take good pics too.

My trail cameras arrived yesterday. They're a lot bigger then I expected.
They look pretty simple to use and set up though.
I'm hoping to go out and set them up tomorrow in a couple of places. :)

I have also gone go-go gadget this season....

Automatic deer feeders, trail timers, and trail camera's (35mm)!!! If all works out, I'll probably go digital next year. What type of battery life do you expect to get from them?

Battery life? I do not have any idea what to expect. These things take 4 D-Cells and I'm just going to put 'em out there and check 'em in a month or 2 weeks or something. I talked to a guy who rewired his camera somehow to take an auxiliary battery (or small solar panel). I'll ask my brother (electronics guru) how this could be done.

you can get a lil gadget for them that you can view and edit your pics/videos in the field, then pop the memory card back in the camera and walk away

Ill be getting one of those trail cams myself soemtime this fall :) they look pretty cool

These Bushnells take an SD memory card. All a guy would need is a digital camera that uses the SD memory card. This is a small problem since my camera uses the XD memory card.

I'm not too sure that I would actually buy another digital camera (that uses the SD card) but it's an option. Also to post the pics onto a computer...

I think I would be more likely to just buy 2 spare memory cards and remove them then come in and view em here... somehow...

I kinda haven't figured this part out.

I tried dropping my memory card from my trail cam into my regular digital camera and the regular digital did not recognize that there was any pictures on the card. My trail camera is not a Bushnell, it is a Moultrie, but I would look into this idea before you buy a camera. I hope it works for you though, I was a little annoyed when it did not work for me.

I have a palm pilot that I use for work. It uses SD memory cards. I can check the pics right out of my moultie game spy in the field save the ones I want and delete the rest, 60 shots of the same racoon and a fawn butt. For one good buck shot is totally worth it.

I'm going to guess that it depends upon your camera.

I was thinking about this and most digital cameras will have a certain amount of built in memory (like 16MB is standard). I think with some cameras this memory is only accessed temporarily, for the pics you are taking and once you turn the camera off, you cannot see the pics stored on this internal memory.

I checked my current digital camera (Olympus C5500) and after turning it on, every sinlge pic on the memory card is available to view. Too bad it's got the XD card...

So I think I will still go with the idea of getting a second digital camera, that uses an SD card. Just not certain on how much to spend on one. Even if I have that same issue, where the camera will not see the pics stored on the memory from the trail cam, it should still act as an interface to download the pics from the card to the computer... if that still doesn't work then I guess I'd spring for the Bushnell accessory viewer.

So today I finally went out and set up my 2 trail cameras. I hope they work. On both cameras for some reason when I turned them on they said "No SD card". I do not know what the heck this means... have to send Bushnell an e-mail enquiry.
Otherwise setting the date, time etc... was easy.
When I was getting them set into place I believe I got some nice pics of my hands/arms.

I tell you the hardest part about setting these up was puting them in a spot where I figured I had a good chance to get pics of deer and where hopefully noone will find (STEAL) them. I was pretty paranoid, once it got down to leaving my $800 in the bush!

In the one area I think I drove around and walking around for 2 1/2 hrs before I figured I had a "secure" location, where I could also get good pics.
So I'll retrieve them in about 10 days and see what I got.

Btw, in both locations, where I was setting them up I ran into deer; 2 whitetail does at the one and 2 whitetail bucks at the other. :)

Maybe I can shed a little light on this.

In most cameras they organize the files into certain folders ie: DCIM these folders are used for the cameras operating system to recognize where on the card the pictures are to view. If the photos are not in that folder then there will be an error.

Bushnells battery life is approx 30 days with good D batteries. (I'm getting almost exactly that on mine).

There are items called "photocubes" that hold up to 20GB's of photos and with a card reader you can transfer the images in the field. they cost about the same as another SD card (larger ones at least).

If you're wondering, I own a camera and sporting optics store and sell most of these items and use them myself so I have had first hand experience with the products.

Now to make you mad.....LOL bushnell just released a couple smaller and cheaper trail cameras within the last while 2.1mp and 1.3 but for identifying game, that's all that's needed.

Have a good day and hope some of this helped.
Mods, by no means was any of this attempting to advertise and therefore I havn't included any links to websites or prices.

When I set up my cameras, I got the No SD Card message on both. But not knowing what to do I went ahead and left them like that. I got a phone call from S.I.R. Customer Service and apparently the cards Bushnell had included were defective. So they said Bushnell was replacing them and S.I.R. was going to send me the new cards. I haven't got those yet. Today I bought 2 new Kodak 265MB cards and went out and put them in my cameras. I'm hoping to be able to retrieve them in the next week and see what I've got...

defective cards, thats always nice! :D

I ordered a LED trail cam too, with the viewer...not sure when it'll be in my hands though :)

let us know how the progress goes Demonical
