Transfer times in BC

Assuming the CFO has everything they need, then you can sit back and wait for them to get to you.

But my advice is to call. They might not have proof of current membership on file, or some other minor wrinkle that could add another month to the approval process. The bonus of calling is they often bump you to the front of the line and approve it while you’re on hold.

It’s a dog eat dog world out there, squeaky wheel gets the grease, fortune favours the prepared, and if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

Thanks, read that and pretty much all the CFO wait times threads but it contains a lot of irrelevant to me information. People jumping the que with phone calls helping the CFO complete their backlog etc.

So while they are on the phone dealing with impatient people they are not attending to the list they already have to work on. The 3 people they have on staff (just guessing) only go so far and I think we may be part of the problem with straining the fragile understaffed and maybe reluctant to give the general public (responsible firearms owners) more guns dept.

With much respect lets be specific then to my question from others in the same situation.

From a business in any province to a BC resident who already owns restricted and has submitted all the required paperwork and not individual or other types of transfers.

From your other post it sounds like you didn't submit your club info to your retailer or your retailer didnt send it. You said it took CFO 3 weeks to acknowledge receipt of your club name.

In my anecdotal experience, the day the CFO said it received it would be when your application was considered complete. Based on my own purchases, waits for transfers are probably 20-30 business days right now.

So, my guess is, the day they confirmed receipt of club info +30 business days is likely the transfer time. Maybe faster now that things cooled a little.

All this to say, your application was delayed due to incomplete info rather than people jumping queue.

I'm in BC.

My may 31 purchase (which is when you said you made yours) was approved June 7.

June 6 purchase approved June 24. A friend's purchase made same week of June 6 was approved before June 30.

No calls made to CFO.

Bought from Prophet River late in the day (after store closed) June 10th. Paperwork submitted to CFO by PR June 11th. Transfer approved today July 15th.

I had the same gun club for 10 years and still submitted it to every retailer at time of purchase. Some don't have a field online for that, so this can cause delays.

Fffff! Thought I was waiting on a transfer from 3rd June. Just looked through my emails and it took until 22nd before transfer was completed by seller.
I’m going to send in range membership anyway as my store purchase from the 3rd hasn’t been processed either.

yup.
personally, if BC transfers are taking 5-6 weeks at this point, new transfers won’t be clearing until going into September. After this weekend, I’m hanging up my “guns”. I’ve put offers in on a couple I like, if I get them great, if not, oh well.

Sellers with Ontario / Quebec buyers better be ready to refund because there’s no way any new transfers going out there will be approved in time.

I heard the CCFR was told that any transfers in progress will still be processed once C-21 goes into effect. This means that one could start a transfer the night before the bill comes into effect and still have their transfer processed.

Whether this is true or not, I'm not sure. I'm definitely not leaving it up to chance personally.

Managed to get through for my Ontario seller on the CFO bc call line this afternoon and completed both buyer and seller on 3 - way call. Won’t speed up the approval but sure takes a lot of phone frustration out of the equation, and now I’m done my hoard. PDP, Cz P10 SC, Sig 226 legion and M11-A1. Done, done , done. Now I can get back to summertime :)

Starting to think the retailer dropped the ball sending the info so they will be my first call. I did send them all of the required information when purchased.

I did email the BC CFO my Range Membership and reference number today as the other one was forwarded to somewhere from god knows where after 3 weeks.

I will call BC CFO and talk to someone to see if its backlog problem or a we dont have your information problem.

Too bad this is all over the map as far as processing times. I have talked to 3 BC people who have called in with early July transfers and were approved on the spot with 3-4 hg's each.

How does that work?? Very well I think.

My transfers did get approved pretty quick. 3 weeks plus 2 weeks to get the paperwork, another 10 days to get my new license with ATT - strange because it looks/is exactly the same as the old one but I moved so needed a new ATT.

Still have 2 pending from July 8 but not in a hurry. I am sure they would approve it on the spot if I called in.

Transfer Notice came at 8:05 via email in direct response to my email Inquiry including Range Membership and Ref number.

I tried to make it easy for them to do it and it worked:dancingbanana:

Ed Berlew said in another thread there is legal precedent from 1978, and basically if the transfer is in the system it should be processed.

Thought Id throw out a final purchase update for BC. Purchased from nordic on June 18th, Transfer approved June 30, shipped same day. Arrived July 11th. Registration card arrived in mail July 19th.

Do you have a Ref#?? I dont want it just curious how Cabelas does transfers.

No. Cabelas is the worst. They even get kind of sarcastic in their copy paste replies when you ask about the order.

"Hello Ryan

Congratulations on your new firearm purchase. If you have received your copy of the transfer notification from the Chief Firearms Officer (Buyer’s copy), then your order will be mailed soon. Under federal guidelines, we are required to wait until we have received our copy of the transfer notification (Seller’s copy) directly from the CFO. This time frame varies by province as some provinces communicate with us electronically while other provinces issue our copy of the paperwork via physical mail. For provinces that send notifications by physical mail, there may be a slight delay before we receive our copy of the paperwork. Once we have received our copy, restricted firearm are mailed with Canada Post at which time you should receive an email directly from the carrier with your tracking number.

Thank you, have a great day!

Mine was on my pdf receipt that csc emailed me the day after the purchase. REF:12345 eg

I didnt see it at first. Business have their own portal with the CFP to initiate a transfer and that comes pretty quick I think.
