Transfer times

Looks like Ontario CFO is getting worth. After waiting for 3 weeks for my private transfer, they wondering why I have to call in such short time. They explain to me, that because I am in Ontario, the waiting time can be longer...

My last transfer was a private purchase of 7 handguns. Over the phone, with both buyer and seller present it took as long as its takes to give the specs and say "OK it's done, do you want it emailed?" The L.A.T.T came on the same email, along with the A.T.T which is good for those guns, every handgun that I already own, and any gun that I will ever buy to any range in Saskatchewan, any border crossing or any gunsmith. Everything short of driving around shooting them in the air apparently.;)

There's no reason it should be any harder than that, unless someone is trying to create more work for themselves.

Looks like you live in Paradise :) I don't understand, why it is so different in Ontario :-[

Ontario: bought a restricted from retail a few months ago, transferred overnight. Bought private and started transfer last week, called today for the fun of it, was told not to expect it for at least 2 weeks. She told me they're totally overwhelmed, everyone's working overtime and the requests keep flooding in.

I'm curious how many is "everyone". Additionally, in these tough times wouldn't it be more cost effective to hire more employees than to dish out the OT?

It doesn't shows on they work outcome . Seriously, I don't think it is a big job to move file from one folder to another. Somehow , in the other provinces they don't have such problems...

Hiring people, even temps, is always a risky proposition, especially when you're a large corporation like a province. But yeah, not sure how many people are actually working there, wouldn't be surprised if it's like 2 or 3.

To be fair, we don't know how many requests they're getting. Look at how fast guns move on EE, and that's just one place they're exchanged. I think the actual transfer process is trivial. Back when it was sane, I called the next morning after we started the transfer, and the guy who answered the phone said yeah I just started yours, give me a few minutes... I called back a half hr later, he said yeah it's done, want a TATT?

They probably just have very limited funding, a small staff and a flood of requests. The only thing that doesn't sit well with me is that retail transfers still only take a day or two. Is it like economy vs first class? Do they have 2 people working there, and one is in charge of all private transfers and one is commercial only (of which there are surely far fewer)?

Why we should be worry about how busy they are? Why it supposed to be our problem at all? I don't think that it is voluntaring mission . The question is do we have any control on this organization as a consumers ? I don't want to be discriminated at all. If I pay my taxes , Im the same as any other retailer or private person.

Why we should be worry about CFO problems , seriously , we are customers and we suppose to expect fair service. Is CFO a non- profit and voluntary organization, or they geting part of our taxes? Why can't get proper service and who is controling this office?

Sorry about that, thought this was the Ontario CFO thread as I typed it. (yes yes, the world revolves around Ontario) Ontario.

As for why I can't, I can, I just don't want to.

Thread title is simply transfer times not transfer times Ontario and I don't like to assume things. We all know what assume stands for. Was your transfer a private one cause if so how did it get approved within a week?

1 week ? Private ?

Yup. The last retail one I bought was overnight, back in Feb.

This is exactly what I'm talking about ... Why it is such different ? Hey , maybe TheJuggernaut works for CFO ?

Not sure... I always call the CFO directly a few days after the transfer starts to ask very politely. She called me back to say that it will be at least two weeks. Today she calls again, says hey I called you last week about a restricted transfer, it's done, here's your transport permit number... Maybe she was taken with how polite I am?
