Trophy Room......Finally Finished......Last Pics

An apology well done..... I am sure under the details you posted that Douglas will accept it....

I understand your feelings on hoarding and collecting however you really can't take it with you...... Experiences and the memories they create are more collectable than anything else...... memories tend to fade over time, and taxidermy is just a way to rekindle them...

I can't speak for Douglas, but were it me, sitting in that room having something good to drink and reliving the memories would be like having my own personal amusement park.....

... I have wiped out 60+ years worth of a lifetime's possessions, in an afternoon,..
I suspect many folks on CGN, me included, have been through similar, although not to your extent.

...When I see awesome collections of anything, I know first hand that it's not lasting forever...
Well, certainly for one person but some collections live on, that is for sure. For me, it has really given me a new perspective on "stuff". Now I concetrate on the really meaninful stuff (to me) :)
Now when I see a room such as this...I can tell there is a true passion and this is really the only way to live a life...regardless of what happens in the end.

^ This!

I wonder what percentage of folks who have impressive collections (of taxidermy, or anything else...) give any thought to what happens after they are gone? And why should they?

Taxidermy in particular is, first and foremost, meant to give pleasure to the hunter. A rack or a head on my wall, or a bear rug, or a skull on the shelf or even a photograph of a trophy, exists (in my mind, at least) to make me remember and smile. Maybe after I'm gone one or two of these pieces may make someone else remember me (and maybe even smile...:)), but obviously most of them will end up in the dumpster. So what? Once I'm dead, I won't care.

It's bad enough that many people are so worried about their future that they forget to live in their present. Taking it to this fatalistic there's-no-point-because-we're-all-doomed level of negativity is just sad.

Apology accepted Patriot1............no offence taken. Not everyone agrees with my chosen lifestyle and I can live with that. I hear what you're saying about collections without high marketing value, such as my trophies. However they are for me and if the boys want to have a huge bonfire with them once I'm gone that will be their inherited right. They both have a good start on their own hunting trophy collections........the apple don't fall far from the tree.
Would all the money and time and effort been better spent else where? Possibly, but then I wouldn't be who I am, and I would not have seen the vast tracts of the planet that I have seen and met all the wonderful people I have met. A look at any one of the mounts reminds me of many, many things, times, places and people. There is SO much more to it that just another pretty head on the wall. A lot of my trophies are just mediocre to good as far as trophy size goes, but each speaks an entire book to me when I look at it.......with many characters, exotic places, a huge range of emotions sometimes......it is very hard to explain, some people take 1000 pictures of their holidays and exotic places.........I usually bring back a few trophies. I don't really want to look at their photos and they usually just give my trophies a casual look over. They are very personal and not of any great value to anyone else, much like the afore mentioned photos and they will fade into oblivion without any meaning or great value once I have "tipped over", but until then I'm going to show them off to anybody who'll look and brag and recite the tales they represent to me, to anybody who'll listen..........:d:d:d

Great summation of a life hunting. Do you still have the 337.

Nope Jj...........caught a wind shear landing on a strip along the Yukon River and rolled her into a ball. Replaced her with a PA32-300 (Cherokee Six), much better suited aircraft for the work we are doing with it, but I did love the speed and maneuverability of the inline twin. Amazing aircraft to fly just not great on anything (strip) under 1500'.

I would much rather have seen live photos of these animals and ammunition would have been better spent at the range.

My original stupid comment was fueled by my own insecurities and I admit that and have apologized. What's your excuse?

Sounds like you need to stop by Starbucks on your way to the zoo.

Oui oui.
Jim apple Doug.
Comments s'apple vouzs?

Very nice playroom you have there. Alot of experiences and hard work I must say. Can I ask how the floor surface was done? Looks like stained concrete polished.

How about referring to lookys linguistic phenomena ( I borrowed that) as "Lookynese", when people ask, what was that?

You would be correct in that observation...........I'm lost by your second line though??????????

I do have photos of most of them just shortly after they were alive...........would that be better for you? Oh and by the way, I already expend 100 times more ammo at ranges than in the field hunting, so I got ya covered there. I doubt the few I expend when hunting would really make any difference at the range.........groups and scores are pretty good now, but I appreciate the concern..............;);)

Ah N68,......... let's not feed the troll and keep this thread upbeat........please. I get this kind of drivel regularly, no big deal, just different interests and opinions, I guess. Unfed trolls generally "starve out" pretty quick.
