a few years ago I was told that the wooden stocked M1A was non-restricted and that the synthetic stocked one was by an employeeeeeeee at The Shooting Edge... True or false? Second is there a huge difference in accuracy between the Norc m1a/m305/m14 versus the Springfield? I'm looking to buy my first one so any imput is great!

Disagree. You're paying 4 -5 times as much for the brand name parts. Quality - potentially - but not 4x the quality, of that I am 100% confident.
The Norinco M14S are non-restricted - it doesn't matter what stock it's in.
The Springfield (M1A) ones shorter than 18.5" are restricted.
The original M14 is prohibited 12.3 as a converted auto.
If it was one of those short barreled M1A's, then yes, it'd would have been restricted.

You know very little apparently. The FORGED Chinese receivers are highly regarded as equal or better than the SA steel ones (which I believe are now CAST).
Been there, done that... learned my lesson... no more Springfield M1As for me.
Norinco and Poly Tech M14s are a much better value here in the states and
you get a forged receiver, forged 1-piece op rod, chrome lined barrel etc...
Paying 2K for a USA less U, while U can pay to get 4 or 5 rifles for the same price...
IMHO, the finish and the bizarrewoodstock sucks on the norc but, that's an assault RRRR shooting rifle. Isn-it?

If I remember correctly, and of course, my info is a couple years old, the SA receivers are actually MIM (Metal, Injection Molded)
No regular M1A is restricted. Those silly SOCOM's are due to the barrel length. The stock material has nothing to do with it though.

FWIW parts on the M1a are made in asia.
So basically you are paying for a rifle assembled in the US but made with inferior parts (receiver & oprod) and parts made in Asia anyhow. I really don't see the point. Plus you get to deal with the state dept holding up the show etc etc. So for 4 times the price you get half the value. Also, all new Norc M14s will be coming with fiberglass stocks.
Funny thing about China they have no qualms about Canadian civilians owning their firearms.

While I haven't shot a Springfield my Norinco has done very well for me. I replaced the stock with a milsurp one from a gun show and scoped it. I can squeeze out 100 yard 3/4" groups with military ball ammo. Off a rest ofcourse.
