Does anyone carry an air pistol while big game hunting?
I have thought about it, but it just seems like asking for trouble.
I too just want to carry a .22 pistol with me.
can't carry 2 guns while hunting big game in MB! Not sure if one is a .22, though!
The real silly part about rules in Ontario is cyote hunting or small game you can have a CF Rifle in any 20. Cal, but not 30. Cal. So I can hunt cyotes any time of year with a 243. But can't use that gun for deer. That one really annoys me as a 243. Rifle would be great for both. Sadly only shotgun only for deer here.

Firearms
If you are hunting small game in an area where there is an
open season for deer, moose, elk, or black bear, you may
not possess or use a rif le of greater muzzle energy than 400
foot-pounds or shells loaded with ball or with shot larger than
No. 2 shot (non-toxic equivalents include steel shot larger
than triple BBB, or bismuth larger than double BB), unless
you possess a valid licence to hunt deer, moose, elk or black
bear as the case may be. This restriction does not apply south
of the French and Mattawa Rivers during an open season for
deer that is restricted to the use of bows.
A person hunting small game may not carry or use a rif le
of greater calibre than a .275-calibre rif le, except a muzzle-
loading gun, in the geographic areas of Brant, Chatham-Kent,
Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton, Hamilton, Huron,
Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk, Northumberland,
Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington or York.

The more I read this crap the more I can't stand this country.
I should be able to walk in the bush with a loaded Glock G19 (with 17 round mags), a loaded M4 (with 30 round mags) and a loaded 30 cal. bolt action rifle if I choose to carry it all. Anything short of that is... well, tyranny. It's that simple when it comes right down to it.
Regarding ON laws post. I would bet that if I was out bow hunting for moose in an archery only season and had a .22lr in the truck for plinking road warrior grouse to and from hunting spots, they could probably nab me for that somehow. Silliness
Similar thing happened to me but my gun was a 30-06 for bear and the crossbow for moose were both beside me in my truck. Got pulled over by a CO and was shown that I was in violation and given a non written warning. He instructed me to encase the rifle and said it would be quite legal to get out of the truck, uncase the rifle and go after bear if I left the crossbow in the truck.
Well next year a different CO was going to charge me for exactly the same thing. I explained my previous encounter with a CO and he called the CO for verification. After a lengthy conversation I was let go and warned that he would charge me if I did it again.
His answer was that the regulations were up to interpretation and the CO that day, would decide. He also stated "It was his job to lay the charge and it was my job to convince the judge that I was innocent". I guess that pretty well sums up what kind of a person he is..........

kinda reminds me of my buddy Jack. He is now a retired CO. He was very dedicated to his job. He would always say "I'm hear to nail you, if I can! He even said that to me. Apparently he nailed his brother for some hunting violation. We were sitting in the old Dodge one time having coffee and lunch just off a logging trail when he came along. He immediately opened the truck door and saw my Ruger No.1 standing there, the action was closed, the gun was not loaded. He says it's $450. (fine) if this is loaded and proceeds to open the action. He was quite surprised to see it was not and said with amazement "no, it's not"! I said: common Jacky, you know me better than that!
Actually, those laws have nothing to do with gun control, but poaching. The only one that surprises me in the list is the .22 during bow season - I would have carried one sure that I was OK. I'll go to bed a little less dumb tonight.
I DO NOT buy into this gun control vs poaching thing. Lots of ways to manipulate laws through so called poaching laws (and other methods) to disarm people. They are NOT separate.
Around here the MNR are restricting access to all kinds of bush roads (it's happening all over the country). I personally know men and women who are so frustrated with not being able to go where they always have, they ended up selling their rifles since they felt they could no longer use them. DISARMED.
I personally know men and women who have applied for (also meaning paid for) moose tags for as long as 30 YEARS !!!! .. and always been denied. So frustrated not being able to moose hunt they sold their rifles. DISARMED.
Don't any of you dare tell me the hunting laws are not being manipulated to DISARM people.
