Isnt a parkerized finish desirable as a base coat for duracoat etc?? Not that I care either way cause Im in for the preorder. Ill be going fixed wood stock so I can do the same to it as I did my 858, new wood the way I want it, custom made by yours truly. $800 to $1000 was exactly where I figured this firearm would fall price wise. I would like to see the rifle have 4 mags included for that price though.
Has nothing to do with being able to afford it. T.I has disappointed a few times before and guys still havent seen their deposits back yet... Im Just saying I dont trust them... lol... They have made promises before...

While I'm always happy to see new things on the market, I'm going to skip this one, especially given the price point.
I just don't really see why it's worth 3-4x the cost of an SKS. I actually don't own an SKS, but I did spend a lot of effort acquiring a mint 858 with solid wood furniture and the finish quality is vastly superior to the pictures of this Type 81 prototype. The 858 is enough combloc 7.62x39 for me.
The Type 81 seems fairly polarizing based on the reactions here, but I'm sure lots will be popping up at the range in no time.

lol you parkerizing guys should go soak your heads! The gun looks like its been painted with BBQ paint for pete sake, .... Parkerizing scratches SO easily, then looks like sh!t. And its hard to fix, how does one easily fix parkerizing?? gun bluing just requires a quick clean, and a brief wipe over with some $12 cold blue ..> and its back to its nice shiny black steel finish again

I'd argue it's a very fair comparison. I totally get that it's a different gun, with a derivative design - but to me as an end user the similarities warrant shopping them against each other:
1) Same calibre
2) Same action, gas piston operated.
3) Both appear hard to scope out of the box.
It's not like I'm comparing it to an AR15 or a bolt action gun. They're clearly in the same family of firearms, and the designs and functionality are quite similar.
Anyway, I'm not saying people shouldn't buy these - but if your goal is to get a 7.62x39 semi-auto rifle you have lots of other valid options.

Yeah like all of these. and I'm still adding a Type 81 to my collection. Did I mention I hate side folder today yet ? The SKS is the most boring of all the X39 rifles BTW.

In all honesty if your looking for a cheap surplus semi auto gun in 7.62x39, go buy an SKS. The Type 81 is not for you.
AR-15 example can be compared to Tavor, XCR, Swiss, etc... So I guess I'm just going to start comparing the $599 Norinco AR to the $4000 Tavor. Seems fair to me.

I'll end up cerakoting it anyways as soon as it starts looking a little shabby. Blue or parkerized, unless you like the worn look, they are both a pain in the a$$ to maintain.
