Type 81 'M' Reviews, suggestions, upgrades

Just took my T8m Fixed out to the range today and I'm thoroughly unimpressed. Not sure if its the geometry of my face or the stock, but it was very hard to get a good cheek weld and attain a good sight picture. I managed to get it to work, but it was not very comfortable. Anyone else experience the same thing?

All of the SA fixed are the same in my opinion. I have an original from the second import cycle. Try adding a butt pad extender

I found the same thing with an SE fixed stock. The comb on the stock is really aggressive and you have to move your face closer to the receiver.

Its meant to have your chin right in the dip of the stock tucked on tight to the dust cover button. Also keep in mind its built for 5 ft nothing people

I received the Samson Arms cheek riser yesterday, tried it on quickly last night. It is significantly higher than my wooden one, so you have to tilt your head/neck a bit more to lign up the center. Wich is still doable and tall enough to classify as cheek rest.. :)

One thing to keep in mind, this thing takes up a bit of room between the stock arm and the receiver when folded. So if you plan to use a "no sideplate" direct mount, or the traditional side plate, you might have to modify something, or move the riser farther back on the stock..

Ya beat me to it, glad to see it fits well. Now I just have to wait for CP to sort themselves out and get me my type 81

The pad it self is movable up and down and can be tilted, so you can adjust it to your face. But higher you go harder and more uncomfotable it is to align the sights.

Just to confirm if i keep my T81 stock there is no issue folding the stock with the cheek rest installed? I have zero plans to put an optic on mine.

Does Samson ship to Canada? I see their Canadian dealer Canadian Safety Source has none and neither does Nordic Marksman. Can always do Az_Arm but the are more $$$

I contacted Samson Manufacturing some time ago and they don't ship to Canada. You can order their cheek raiser from Az.. Arm.... However, with shipping it becomes quite pricey so I gave up. Decided to go a cheap way with a paracord wrap instead: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...pression-shooting-Type-81M-Underfolder-at-25y. Surprisingly, it's comfortable enough for shooting. Don't need anything else.

Thanks for that - have already done the paracord wrap (just on the left side) and it's not too bad. Just looking at other options.

Very nice wrap! Dual color! How do you like your AK-type grip? Ordered one yesterday. I have large size hands and already scratched my right hand using that small wooden grip.

Thanks.

AK style grip is excellent. About 3/4-1" longer. Perfect for my hands.

I’m glad that’s not just me. I find it to be a very sharp gun generally, lots of sharp edges. The magazine lips were sharp enough to slice skin before some light sanding.
