Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Wow that looks great! How difficult was it fitting the stock and handguard? Links to where you bought them?

That stock is a Frankenstein custom job - a Russian AKS74U stock cut and welded to a Vz58 folding stock adapter, and then attached to the T81 via a Foxstrap Vz58-to-T81 stock adapter. The RAS was an old Vz58 quadrail; it fit fine, but the tabs to attach the upper rail needed to be removed for the upper handguard to fit - there was no way to make that upper rail work on the T81.

And sorry, no links available... all of the parts on the T81 were pulled from my old 858 when I sold it years ago.

Having used my type 81 a couple of times I find that it's pretty user friendly with the exception of the mag release.
Some want a larger charge handle where I find it tidy and sufficient. Even the right hand safety I find is easy enough to operate with my right hand thumb while still maintaining a good purchase on the pistol grip. I think that I might eventually change the stock to something that has an adjustable LOP.

So in the meantime I was annoyed by the mag release and came up with a solution. I took a hammer extension for a 9422 and modified it (cut and lengthened)so that it was wide enough to slip on the mag release without permanently altering the release. Once I use the rifle a bit more I can decide if I want the release on the left or right side.

What is the consensus on the Foxplate adapter?

Did you mean the Fox Strap VZ to Type 81 Stock adapter? We can't post non-site vendor links, but you can Google it. If they don't have any for sale, they did have a link on the page to a 3D Printer file for it. YouTuber GunNutz guy posted a video of him trying multiple VZ stocks with it, so it survived switching over to multiple stocks. I've seen on multiple builds on here and Reddit, and haven't heard any negative feedback to date.

Ah yes this is the one. Weird that it says there's a difference between the folder/AR buffer tube model. The one I have experience with worked with both lol.

If I recall correctly, it was the kind of bolt that came with it was the only difference, as the bolt to attach the AR-15 VZ adapter was different then the one used for the VZ stocks; the actual Fox Strap adapter itself was identical.

right you are. the bolt for the AR is common bolt from hardware store, the bolt for the VZ no so much.

but why? just clicking the right adapter, you will receive the adapter with the right bolt at the same time , at no additional cost and waiting.

If you 3D print the adapter yourself, you need to get the bolt. Also if you want the other kind of bolt to switch between the VZ AR buffer adapter and a VZ stock.

me? i would need more than the bolts, i need the alloy 910 material, the printer itself and knowhow, lol.

i thought we were talking foxstraps adapters.

They're solid. I've got them on two different rifles and they've held up very well. I'd prefer aluminum, but the alloy910 material seems durable.
