Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I can shoot my SKS way better than my T81. All I did was a modify the trigger sear and shimmed the stock. Been hitting a 8” plate at 200m with open sights consistently.

I think the problem is the short sight radius with the T81. My eyes seem to have trouble focusing on the front post. I ordered some SKS front sight posts to modify. I’m thinking a thinner front post may help.

Also… It’s been over a month since the last shipment and i’m still seeing lots of T81s on the EE with multiple bumps. I think the T81 isn’t the “investment” some of you guys thought it would be. Lol

Bet a lot of people buy them as a first time "red rifle" and realize its not for them. Especially with the dismal aftermarket support.

I got to say, I’m overall very happy with my first commie gun. Having a T81 now makes me want a SKS.
It’s a very fun shooter for out in the bush plinking. I put a Midwest ind. folding stock on her because the fixed stock has a terrible cheek weld. Based on all the reviews I read and videos I watched my expectations were low, so maybe that’s why I’m so impressed with what I got. I’ve put just shy of 1000rds down the barrel and have yet to have a single issue, I’ve haven’t cleaned it yet, or needed to increase the gas.

Now that it’s likely we are not going to see any non-corrosive Barnaul for a very long time, I’ll probably end up shooting this thing a lot less because I have no interest in corrosive ammo and the cleaning it requires.

If there is one think I’d like to see as an aftermarket part it would be a reverse thread (like a shroud) that replaces the grenade launcher attachment. Something that looks like an AK-104 booster or AK-74 compensator.

Looks great! Is someone selling 1913 adapters for the Type 81, or is that one you made yourself? Thanks!

It’s an aluminum one I bought from a guy on gun post. It’s a machined piece, he did a great job but didn’t have many to sell and he’s out as of now.

Thanks! Did the 1913 mount maker intend to make some more, or, if not do you know if he would mind if I forward the picture to True North Arms for them to make a version?

I have no idea if he is going to make more. I reached out to him but he sold out before he got my message. I ended up getting one from another fellow who purchased one and anodized it black, so I paid a premium (but still fair).

I would say there might be enough demand for a place like TNA to make one.

I was looking on google to see if I could find a picture of it but I couldn’t find one. I noticed someone is making a VZ stock adapter for these though

Edit, found pics of the actual one I bought

Thanks for the picture! Fox Strap sells the 3D printed VZ stock to Type 81 adapter, and they actually have posted the plans on their for sale page if someone want to print their own. If someone modified their design to print with a 1913 Picatinny rail instead of the VZ adapter, would the printed rail segment be sturdy enough to attach a stock to?

i was looked up the dets on the midwest stock, quite impressive and handsome looking. steel folding mechanism, aluminum stock, folds either way but its pricey. msrp US$190 not including the adapter.

Fox Straps does not sell anymore and does not reply to messages.

Does anyone know if it’s normal for the type 81 bolt to contact the cocked hammer on the return slide forward? My hammer has some visible wear from this. Normal??

I do still sell, I am just not able to produce more for now. I am a truck driver and I am away from my shop and my work computer for weeks on end. Currently I am working on a batch of 30 or so adapters which when all are completed will be made available for sale.

Excellent, thank you for letting us know! You may want to partner with Grey Birch Solutions for distribution and having a site sponsor link on here. They make a lovely made in Canada 1913 Picatinny stock that folds, has adjustable length of pull and a built in adjustable cheek riser, https://greybirchsolutions.com/foundation-stock-1/, that would pair nicely with your adapter and the Type 81.

just to clarify, what adapters are you producing?
