Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I ended up putting down some money on an optics ready Type 81 SE at Tactical Imports. I'm conflicted that it's on the list but at the same time, it'll take some time for it to kick in and may eventually be struck down anyways
Looking forward to getting this and having some fun

Gotta find a Kobra mount/optic--or the pic rail attachment...TI had none left apparently

a kobra may be an expensive option if you can find one.

Swinging plates @ 200y with the sr today. Messing around with a new iphone attachment for my spotting scope. Need a more stable stand for the wind.

I just noticed that you get a different eye relief between the rail that comes with the Kobra versus the one that comes with the PO scope. The PO scope rail mounts further forward which gives about an inch less distance to your eye, inadvertently giving you access to putting the safety on the left side of the gun if preferred. Kobra buyers didn't have a choice for safety placement at the time.

Thought I would give a range report after my first outing with my new LMG.
The accuracy was beyond my expectations. While tuning the sights at 50 yards I had groups within an inch every time. The rifle was hitting insanely low from the factory. The 500 yard setting was a bit low at 50 yards, so after many downward turns of the front post (with the included sight tool in the cleaning kit) I was putting all the rounds in the 2" bullseye. We then went on to plink some gongs from 40-150 yards with great results. My friend had his 1954 Tula sks out and there is no denying the type 81 feels better in the hands, has better accuracy and handles recoil much better. It shoots so smooth, I couldn't believe it. The barrel is definitely a bit heavy, but after removing the bipod and carrying handle it's not too bad to lug around and hold up freehand for shooting. The fit and finish of the wood furniture and bluing could be better, but the accuracy and feel more than made up for it. I only had this rifle in my possession for 24hrs before numbnuts announced the sweeping ban, but I would still strongy suggest buying one while you still can!! I'm going to buy another 1500 round crate and have some fun this winter while it's still "legal" to do so.

Merry Christmas!

Just fooling around with the butchered ATI SVD stock. Rifle itself is LMG, re-barreled in 6.5 Grendel. It does not take long to fit this stock on, just cutting, dremelling and belt sanding. Also some cutting and welding of handguard retainers. Conversion was made before SR hit the market. Thinking of re-barreling an SR in 6mm ARC now to improve long-range ballistics, but retaining original furniture
