From a normally reliable source, the individual has been eligible for quite a while, but has expensive family obligations.

All the more reason to retire. Public servants are actually PAYING the government to work if they stay on past full eligibility. They take home more pay if they retire. That's why 99.999% of them retire at 35 years service. Plus they can then earn another income in a second career.
Truth of the matter is some people's whole identity is tied up in being a bureau-tyrant mucky-muck.
So is this about pensions or the Type 81??? We get it, the lab is slow.
Is there some other relevant thing to discuss about its approval timeline? The lab IS the only thing between you and owning this firearm. All the cool videos and speculating about cosmetic similarities to an AK are just noise until they write a short report and get out of the way of free enterprise.
Neither talking about the Type 81 and talking about the disdain for the delays at the lab online will do anything to speed up the process. The ATIP information is awesome, as is the ombudsman, but going on and on about how this one guy at the lab won't retire is just...... dry.
At least pictures of the Type 81 have some color.
Fair enough. This one approval IS taking longer than most though, hopefully it's not a sign of a poor outcome.
What ever happened to that "expedient" new firearms classification system people were talking about in the new bill? Did that ever work out, or is this all in limbo?
If people took the time to read a bill instead of making up nonsense rumours we'd all be farther ahead.
C42 spoke of nothing regarding speeding up the lab.
