Type 97 Classification Issues - PART TWO

Me too. I was gonna pull the plug and buy another m14 but I didn't.

I honestly think about pulling the plug once a week to buy something else. Then I think about these RCMP a division a holes and these cbsa clowns and I stay put. I wouldn't mind dusting a few gophers with a bullpup.

For myself, it's about having a kick around rifle that'll take the rain, mud, snow etc. with minimal effort to clean it afterwards... Got caught in the rain last fall with my 94 lever gun, and it took hours to clean and dry it... My original AR in the non-restricted days, would just get stood on it's nose to dry out for a bit, then I was GTG again... sigh....

What if I want to leave the country??

I talked to the CFC today and asked them a question: What if I wanted to move to the U.S. and sell all my firearms? I asked this because currently I can't transfer my T97 to anyone. Meaning I can't sell it! So if I can't sell it, what happens if I move from the country?? (not that I would, but it's a valid question). The lady I talked to said that with regards to the T97, it would either have to be destroyed or deactivated!:mad::mad:She couldn't answer any of my questions surrounding her statement. She said the FRT tables say it is classed as full auto - though she wouldn't (or couldn't) tell me what class it is.

Confused? Me too. It must be nice to be a able to make the rules up as you go along...

It is a serious piss off, and although this is a glaring example of it, it's hardly isolated. At what point is some politician who's supposed to be onside, or even making an attempt at appearing honest, going to make some attempt at reigning in this bureaucracy amok?

The truth is we would need a majority gov with a stron conservative mandate.

It wouldn't have a class, as a new import it is not grandfathered in any way. It's simply a full-auto prohib.

Tell them that in that case, you plan to sue them as they failed to properly inspect the firearm before allowing it to be imported. Also point out that by claiming it is full auto, they are admiting they screwed up.

If someone looks up T97 now, the only T97 listing on the FRT is the F/A model, which was imported previously to the S/A model.

I think the lady on the phone might not know there were FRTs for the S/A variety, that have now been pulled. Just because there is only one FRT listed for the T97 doesn't make Clobbs a F/A. This is a "bit" of a "special situation".

Hope you guys get this all sorted out soon. :sniper:

This brings up a good point. Hey Paul Morrison do the current owners have a viable reason to take this to court? One really good way for this to be faught would be for the CURRENT owners of RESTRICTED T97 RIFLES to EACH INDIVIDUALLY take the crown to court. Make them fight everyone on multiple fronts so to speak.

This is the kind of activism that Canadian Firearms owners need to be involved in.

great point supra. I wish there was something for all of us would-be type 97 owners to do legally.

Clobb, you can sue them for lost wages and stress too, you invested a lot of time and $$ in your rails.

I just wish we could get SOME information, anything about what the status of the wait is. Nothing but conjecture on here and CanadaAmmo doesn't say much more when phoning to ask, other than they are still waiting and dont' know when or how long. It's been over a year since the order and five months'ish since they arrived.

Surely someone can give us an official comment on what the holdup is without endangering the "negotiations" I'd hope are going on to get them out of holdup.

I do not think there are negotiations. I think they are waiting till they break canam.. hopeing he declares bankruptcy. If they do nothing long enough, they will do damage. those items need to be paid for.
that's why my money stays with canada ammo
I think we should all try to buy other items fro him to help keep everything good for him.

Nah - I told her that mine was a semi, I gave her the Cert#. She saw that mine is registered restricted...which confused her.

The Information officers know less about what's going on than we do. The Techs know exactly what's going on but they aren't talking because there is an "ongoing investigation". What the F@CK are they investigating? I can think of two options which I'll keep to myself, but both of which mean that they believe they should not have allowed the restricted T97's in the first place. They f@cked up and are now just putting things on ice, just like they did with the Walther G22.

It's a containment issue for them.... if they don't allow new shipments into the country, and don't allow transfers of existing T97's, then the problem is at least contained. They end up with as little egg on their face as possible. And they just have a FEW pissed off owners and a handful of pissed off retailers.

The question becomes....how far do we all want to push this? If we take them to court and force their hand it may work out in our favor, or it could get the door slammed tight. Both ways end up with the RCMP with egg on their face.
