Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Ontario store purchase, to Ontario (me) on March 19th. March 20 received the CFC transfer reference number from the dealer by email (nice touch BTW). I called in April 16th, spoke to a nice lady at the CFC, she says its still pending but she offered to send out an email to me once approved, I guess they don't normally do this for store purchases. She said sorry, with the backlog and volume it will probably be another 2-3 weeks. She suggested maybe around first week of May. I said thanks, stay safe and have a nice day and hung up.

My point is, we know the system may be broken/archaic, but the humans we speak to on the phone are genuinely trying. You could hear it in her voice when we talked. A gentle reminder to all to try and remember that when calling in. I too have a grip upgrade and an extractor kit to install and I cant wait to get my new toy. The grip and the extractor I have had for over a month (part of the same order). Thanks all.

No doubt the current situation is a major factor and everyone is doing their very best. Question still remains why Alberta’s best is 3-5 days and Saskatchewan’s best is 2-3 days (my buyer from SK said before Covid it was usually same day!) while Ontario’s is 6-8 weeks though.

Yes they were. I bought a handgun last July and it only took two weeks. Bought one early March and it took 6 weeks. Sold a restricted to a fellow in Manitoba and it took almost 2 weeks where he said it was normally a day/few days.

Go back a few pages, there are reports of transfers being completed in a few days.

I just sold a restricted firearm to a member in Alberta. I’m in Toronto. It took less than 2 days for it to be transferred into his name. I was shocked. But worked out well.

Called late last week and they said still in process. ON to QC. Will call again soon.

Oh....to QC, that has to be the absolute worst place to be waiting for a firearm. Hard to believe it’s worse than On, but it is.

I feel for ya.

I bought a restricted from QC April 9. I was complaining to the guy about Ontario’s transfer times compared to BC.
The guy at the store had 0 sympathy and said QC was far worse. I thought the guy was trying to make me feel better as I didn’t believe worse than Ontario was possible. I stand corrected. I feel for people in Quebec.

Shout out to club de tir ville st pierre. They have really good prices and good service. Www.ctvsp.com

Does anyone have any good reasons to believe that this is NOT politically motivated? If Alberta can process it within days why can't Ontario or Quebec? What is different, logistically speaking? While Ontario has a conservative government, our CFO is either totally incompetent and not fit for office or he is working for the liberals.

While i agree, consider the 4.1 million people in AB vs the 13.7 million in ON.

I would imagine the Ontario CFO’s office is significantly understaffed......on purpose

I'm pretty sure the long and short of it is: The Firearms Act is Federal, and the registration of firearms is a federal responsibility. Alberta's transfers are handled by the RCMP (federal), which is federally funded and theoretically sufficiently funded. On the other hand, Ontario and Quebec have their own CFO offices, and transfers go through them - meaning those provinces are responsible for (under-) funding their respective CFOs. And the provinces have no interest in spending more than the minimum to facilitate a registry that is ultimately federal.

No. It's why I didn't run out and buy a restricted firearm. It didn't exactly take a rocket surgeon to know what the wait times were going to be like.

HEEEEELP!!!! My rocket had a heart attack! Call the rocket surgeon!
:slap:

Transfer initiated first week in April, ON to ON private to private ,
Called in and they said *hopefully* will be completed in the next 2 weeks.

Agreed that there must be some liberal agenda inside the ON CFO office,
There’s no excuse to take over 1 week.
