Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I stopped by my local gunsmith's shop Gunco, he just had a customer call & say he got the transfer approval. I asked when they started the process & he said May 18th!!!

Now, Gunco was closed last week AND the guy on the phone may not have email on file at the CFO and had to wait for the paper mailed copy... But still, these Ontario transfers are going to take FOREVER to clear!

Ahh, another Ottawian. Jason is great, no chit chat. Right to business and all is good.

That sounds like an anomaly. I had a May 25 sale ref # 5878### that was cleared on June 21 so 27 days.

Entirely possible! Heck, I bought A BUNCH of revolvers & a semi auto in the 6 weeks since the announcement... I've never bought this many handguns before, but here we are with the possibility of a freeze & I wanted some revolvers for me, my wife & my daughter to use...

Cabelas on June 3rd a Ruger Wrangler
Wolverine on June 3rd a Heritage Rough Rider 22LR/22WMR
IRUNGUNS on June 11th a PSA Dagger
Tenda on June 11th AND the first of only two Ref# I have: 59464** Two more Ruger Wranglers
Canada First Ammo on June 22nd Heritage Rough Rider LONG FELLA 22LR/22WMR (Bought this as a lark, lol)
Marstar June 30th Two Pietta SA 1873 revolvers in 45 Colt
SFRC on July 12th, got a Ref# on July 13th: 59673** Two more Heritage Rough Riders 22LR cylinder this time

Update, I called the ON CFO to see if I had been flagged for a bunch of purchases in a short time. Had a good chat with the lady, who said that it used to be more of a concern, but with the freeze announcement they are seeing LOTS of purchases from folks who know it's now or never... I explained my multiple purchases of the same handguns & they put a note on my file that I had called explaining that I was buying them for me, my wife (who I will transfer some to) and my daughter (who goes to the range with us but is too young to have her own just yet).

The lady went through each purchase & gave me the Reference numbers for them. She also told me what date each business submitted the transfer request... Some surprised me, like Cabelas... Have a look...

Wolverine June 5th 59117**
IRUNGUNS June 11th 59310**
Cableas Jun 12th 59317**
Tenda Jun 21st 59464**
Canada First June 24th 59516**
Marstar Jun 30th 59576**
SFRC July 13th 59673**

Tip of the hat to IRUNGUNS & Marstar for same day starts on the transfers. SFRC for next day, Wolverine for two days after, Cabelas 9 days later & last but not least Tenda 10 days later.

My guess, and I told the lady at the CFO this, was that I would not see the last of these transfers until Remembrance Day Nov.11th! That's my guess... See what happens I guess.

Cheers

That’s pretty poor business practice to be 9 and 10 late in getting the transfer started. Cabelas has lots of employees and there’s no logical excuse.

Tenda at 10 days is piss poor… If they have the ability to sell all those firearms, they have the ability to process the transfers as well. For them, it’s done on a computer and not on the phone so if the staff won’t stay later to get it done, it’s management’s responsibility.

It’s another thing altogether if Tenda sold guns that they didn’t have serial numbers for and waiting for the distributor to get them the numbers. Hope that’s not the case, but one other business sold guns that they didn’t have in their possession and later on found that those guns went to a different vendor. Not a good situation…

Amazing that IRUNGUNS & Marstar were able to get transfers started on the same day. I'm still waiting for 2 Ontario-Ontario transfers here... hopefully coming soon. My transfer numbers are 5894*** and 5913***. I purchased with Tenda on May 30th and June 1st, and did not receive transfer numbers till June 6 and 14th, respectively. That's a 7 day and 13 day delay. I'm not holding it against them though. I hate calling the CFO myself, and can't even imagine how many people they had to process.

Jesus, I feel bad for you guys. Def enough to tell the province to hire more people.

Agreed.

IMHO EVERYONE should be submitting complaints through the Ontario Ombudsman & the basis of the complaints are twofold:

(1) Canadians are supposed to receive similar services from gov, and ONT is failing in this regard with transfers taking months. HIRE more staff.

(2) Transfers should be done in BATCHES to avoid duplication of effort. ALL of my 10 transfers should be done together to prevent repeating the same process over & over as they come to them in the order received... Essentially they would look up the PAL, see the pending transfers & approve them all in one go...

Similarly, they can email the Premier as well... I'm also thinking about contacting my MPP, who's a lib & the only reason I am hesitating...

Anyhow, Nov is my guess... Let's see if I'm wrong...

Cheers

I have one in the loop from Bullseye purchased may 31, transfer #5896### initiated june 2. I am not sure how they submit them but probably have to log on to some portal. With the number of sales that were done i am sure those portals were jammed.

I had a purchase on May 25 and that transfer # was 5878### so there were the high end of 17,000 applications filed between May 25 and June 2. I am going to assume that the majority of those were filed after may 31 so you can see how it took some time for all of those stores to get transfers filed with limited staff etc. Some had to actually close their doors for days to do it.
