Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I think at this point nobody really knows what will be happening over the Christmas Break. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw very little movement between December 23rd and January 3rd to be honest.

Ontario public servants would have to take vacation days for non stat holidays. They don't get Christmas off like some private companies offer.

That said, I expect they will all take time off between Christmas and New year, that's pretty standard.

No kidding. Just sent a few emails to the place I made a purchase on July 5.
Me:Hey, bought a gun on July 5th, and have heard nothing from you, just the "order confirmed" via the online purchase. Do you have a serial number or transfer number for me?
Them:we sold too many firearms to keep track of that, like 100 or more. *long explanation of how transfers are taking a long time*
Me:Ok, I guess I'll take your word for it and hopefully I see something in another 3-6 months?
Them: The Serial Number is ######. It would take upwards of 3-4 hours to dig your gun out of the safe to find a transfer number, so unfortunately we can't provide that.
Me: Ok. Others vendors from whom I'd purchased around the same time have provided me with Serial Number and Transfer number the same day, so I'd expected the same, but I can make some estimate on the transfer number, based on the purchase date. Thanks. The SN sets my mind at ease.
Them: (literally 30 minutes later). I had some free time, so I had a look and found your gun. The Transfer number is 59860###
Me: *checks spreadsheet and realizes they didn't initiate transfer for at least a month after the purchase*

Glad I didn't call them out by name. Service was a little weird/lacking, but turned out the transfer number they provided on Nov 21 had a typo (an 8 vs. 6) and the transfer was actually submitted on July 5th, and approved today

Transfer number 59603##. Initiated July 5th, Approved Dec 5th.

And that's it for me.

I’m sure it varies quite a bit, but my wife works for our local municipality and they get Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New years Day all as stat holidays. So the entire week of 26th-30th paid off.

So even if the CFO only get Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years Day, employees realistically only need 2 vacation days for the entire week off. I’m sure there’s also a few employees that have been banking their overtime to save up and use for the holidays.

Worked in an emergency services sections Ontario Public Service for 37 years. It is pretty standard practice for people to save some vaca for that period, and to have only a skeleton crew available and working between Christmas and New year. That is especially true in jobs that may involve a lot of seasonal overtime that can be converted or taken as compensating leave. I would expect it to be the same at the CFO office and very few transfers will be done during that period.
