Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Yes, sorry forgot to say the one they forgot about is a private AB to ON. The other is private ON to ON.

As for the post about 100 transfers a day. They should be doing more. Basically two people doing them, very sad.

The same people are probably also answering the phones. So, the more you call to check, the slower it gets.

can you get your registration certificate before the transfer goes through? Or do you have to wait some more?

When you are waiting for a transfer, you are waiting for the firearm to be registered to you. Then after it is registered to you you can take posession but still have to wait for the RCMP to print the certificate and mail it to you.

Sorry did you miss the part where they never emailed me? A week went by after it was approved and I had no notice. I guess when the registration arrived in the mail was when I'd find out I could take possession. By your logic I suppose I shouldn't be calling to check on a transfer? The lady I spoke to said that other people were doing transfers that day not her. They do have more than two people working there ffs.

ON --> NS (Business --> Private). Order placed July 16th, transfer request received by CFO July 16th (Thursday), Transfer approval received by email July 20th (Monday). Four days with a weekend in between.

My buddy just got one local business (ON) to personal 9 weeks. I just got a shipping notification ON business to personal and it’s been 11 weeks. I have another couple that I’m waiting on, both local personal to personal and it’s been about 8 weeks for those.

It is having the desired effect. Some may not want to sell to Ont gun buyers because of the wait. Put pressure on elected officials to see why they can’t do there job.

Or ON buyers apprehensive to have their money in limbo for 3 months while a transfer collects dust. Maybe some buyers would prefer til the approvals get back to the 1-2 week mark. ON firearms retailers must be seriously pissed off about this too, having sold inventory sitting around, taking up space, creating liability, customers calling and checking the status of transfers incessantly.

I know I’ve thought twice about a restricted purchase because of this. Still bought 3 anyways against me and my credit card’s better judgement.

I remember waiting 3 weeks for a restricted transfer to go through in 2019, and thought THAT was unacceptable and that the pitchforks and torches should be out.

I called the ombudsman office again and they told me that their "review" is still ongoing. They are very tight-lipped about what, if anything, they are doing. It's great to live in a system with "checks and balances" right?
