Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

If you had told me at the end of august when I bought one of my last handguns that I’d be waiting till the end of February for the transfer to go through I would have laughed at the ludicrousness of that proposition

I only started buying new ones after I sold some of my collection. All the ones I’ve sold have been gone for months (601-604) numbers in Alberta, Manitoba, BC). I’m yet to receive one of mine (601-603). I remember tracking the chart when I first purchased and was looking at late December to receive my first. Now late Feb early March.

But you did put a phone number or cellular number on your PAL application. And very likely an email address on your file. No two emails are identical (legally). No two phone numbers are identical(legally). Your email and phone number are connected to you by your file. See where I'm going with this. Just saying. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows anymore.

Believe it or not, some of us have more than one email address! Some of us have an email address on file with the CFO/RCMP that is not used for anything else. Also, while the CFO/RCMP may have people's phone numbers, GunNutz doesn't. All that means that it isn't super easy for the powers that be to connect a real person's email/phone # with a CGN account using a different email / no phone number. Not impossible, mind you, just not as easy.

I think most people would prefer to not make it easy for the CFO/RCMP to connect a real PAL-holding person with an account on CGN. Whether or not the RCMP is actually concerned with doing that is an entirely different question, but why make it easy for them.

looks like someone is working today.
b to p 6000### done today. and that is the last of my incoming... two more to go out now...will have to see if they are ontario transfers.

I also know some here never used their actual name or actual normal email address to create an account. Following up via the information used to sign up for an online discussion forum would be folly idea for any LEO.

100%

There are all sorts of tools at the disposal of the powers that be, for tracking down people on the internet... but why make it easy for them? Many people are (legitimately) concerned that they, for example, maybe posted a rant some time in the past where they said "I'm not gonna surrender my ###xx gun", and the authorities having the ability to easily put 2 and 2 together and figure out the identity of the person that made that statement. It's not as though the RCMP needs to have people lurking in the CGN forums (which they most certainly do) to dig up this stuff. There are massive computer systems that are doing all that for them.

What is interesting is looking back at the post history of virtually everyone suggesting that people are paranoid, or "why hide the last 2 digits" etc..... these very people have, themselves, posted transfer numbers with the last 2 digits x-d out. Hey, if you don't think it's necessary to hide the last 2 digits, why don't YOU post your full transfer numbers??? LOL

6.000.0xx
B to P
AB business to ON
Approved yesterday,Jan 28 at 6PM

I have another 5.999.9xx that hasn't been approved yet one..5 more to go

So essentially they are saying they would rather waste taxpayers money with overtime than work efficiently and batch the transfers like other provinces!!!
This should be brought up with the Ombudsman

You mean line their pockets with easy peasy lucrative overtime.
It would make zero sense to onboard new people when the program is ending.

I don't recall putting my CGN username on my PAL application, maybe you volunteered that info...

If you have ever posted a transfer number on CGN then the RCMP will assume your CGN username is tied to that transfer number.
Boom, they can search every post you have made here

Pardon my ignorance, but can someone explain what thr purpose of this approval for restricted is? What are they checking?

They are checking their bank balance and how much overtime they can make, LOL, no one seems to definitely know
