I'm a newbie to this thread:D, and a huge Mare's Leg fan!

Can anyone tell me how much the Rossi Ranch Hand and the Chiappa Mare's Leg sells for at Wanstalls.

I'm sure it has been listed somewhere in the last 217 pages:eek:, I just haven't read them all.....YET

My mission is to fill the freezer this year, using one of these bad boy's!

waiting............. and found this:

That is exactly what i'm working on right now! I'm also toying with the idea of a hollow aluminium tube that screw into the buttstock. Inside the tube=survival kit. Would be great for my Henry 22 or my Rossi 44 mag. Just have to find the right alum. tube and butt plate...looking for a machinist.

yea thats the problem it will probably be expensive for us guys without the garage full of tools and experience. Oh well its worth a try though.

I tought of a PVC tube but I don't know if it would stay inside the stock in press fit manner ? Anyway will see when I have the time to work on it.

I can see a leather pouch along the seath that the removable stock would into. Sort of a kit.

what you need is someone with a CNC milling machine to build a relacment skeleton stock or bolt on colapsing stock, wont be cheap but cnc machines make awsome work out of aluminum

ACE makes a butplate that bolts onto an AR buffer tube. I'm putting one on a TC Contender for a short gun.

Not to be a spoil sport but if the stock is collapsable, doesn't that make this gun fall into a prohib status? The RH tick all the right boxes to keep it NR but I'd double check the stock.

I suspect your right.

My thoughts are a collapsing stock that increases the overall length to 26" and cannot go smaller.

Then it "should" remain nonres even when collapsed...

But with our laws who knows. :nest:

That is essentially correct (it's in mm which doesn't translate precisely to 26 inches but close enough). A stock cannot become smaller than that by 'folding, telescoping or other action'. So - if with the collapsable adapter it's still over 26 you're ok.

But you're really kinda bastardizing the poor thing.

I know gun laws for the most part don't make sense but the OAL question that has me scratching my head can be illustrated by the recent posts regarding the Ranch Hand.

I agree with Foxer; if it starts over 26" and goes longer but not shorter, no problem.

But take a Ranch Hand (or any other gun for that matter) and add a pupose-designed removable buttstock extension. This extension is not critical to the gun being fired, ie. the gun can still can be fired without it attached.

With the Ranch Hand, it is less than 26" in standard form. Add a buttstock extension and it is over 26". Remove it and have you not just created a prohib under the "any other action" blanket statement in the laws?

I know - gray area - just don't want to see folks get burned.

This photoshopped pic by cal h is what I'm referring to. Unscrew and remove the extension and ???

A collaspable stock would be awesome! I have just had a full stock from Boyd's come in and a set of sights from Steve's. I will try them out at the range tomorrow and let everyone know how it works out.

The sights took 2 weeks to get here. I got the low semi-buckhorn rear sight and tall large ivory bead front sight. It was very easy to change the sights, used a brass drift and drifted them out from left to right, installation is opposite. The front sight is quite a bit taller than the stock one, and the rear has a lot of adjustment.
Will see how it all works out tomorrow.

In my opinion, the charm of the Ranch Hand is its clean/basic silhouette ... and its 24" length.

Lots of energy in a tidy little package ...
