UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

I can save you some time carverk. for 44 mag, there is no bulk out there right now as brass is scarce for reloading companies. The cheapest 44 mag I can find is here :

http://www.budgetshootersupply.ca/frame.cfm?ItemID=434&CategoryID=5

I am getting into reloading so I can make my own stuff though, that way you can have 300-325gr hard cast hot loads if you want em.

lots of 38 special bulk for cheap out there though, I am thinking of getting a lever in .357/38 just for that reason.

thanks driller I will have to stop in budget shooting supples wen I go to pick up my Chaippa ML from Wanstall!
I just got all the stuff to start relolouding my self a single stage press but looking at a hornady lock and lode AP ez-ejct auto-progressive press , auto case feeder and a auto-bullet feeder .
Hope to find sum one to help get me started reloding

well there seems to be lots of people willing to help get a guy started. that sounds like a fancy set up! I just have a lee hand press on order... but I travel a lot so it will be handy.

lots of load data on the interwebs too, I have just been cross referencing them to make sure they are all real load data ha.

when these damn elbows heal up I will have some serious bear deterrence rounds loaded up, I am very excited.

For those wanting a lot of ammo for their specific cartridge, lee progressive press sets are worth looking at.

They basically come set up for the cartridge you want, and you basically don't want to screw with that. They come with all the dies and such you'll need already ready to go, with just a small amount of tuning for your specific load.

They can be ordered from the states for about 250 shipped. A buddy just ordered one.

This will let you make about 250 rounds per hour all in all done.

unfortunately once set up you really want to leave it the hell alone. So - you'd almost need one for every cartridge you're making if you have a lot of different cartridges.

If you're just shooting a little, the regular press is perfect. But - if you're going to be shooting a lot this is worth considering.

I'll report back when my buddy gets his up and running and we see how many rounds it puts out.

Thanks Wanstalls!

Thanks sold...

Gary

The US trained solders to point shooting started with a daisy red rider bb gun then move to the m14 with a wood dowel taped on the barrel of a m14 so that that you wood have to look over the sight's to aim the rifle and not rely on the sight's
on airail target thay aimed at the top of there target and for ground targets thay aimed at the bottom of the target and no sight
ones thay became good at point shooting then thay started to use the sights
I will give point shooting with my Chiappa 357/38 mare's leg a go when i get home ( 38 with wax ballets for sum back yard fun)

I just order a box off 38 special brass and 2000 wax bullets from Bushwacker Western Wear!
just need 2000 shotgun primers

My Chiappa ML is going to get a good waxing haahaa

Just got my new Rossi Ranchand in 45 Colt from Gary! Thanks for the great service!

Took it to the range yesterday, still shooting high even at 30 yards.

Couldn't get the dovetail low enough, so I decided to order from Steve's Gunz an Adjustable Bolt-Mounted Peep Sight Safety Replacement.

Keep you guys posted when it comes in.

Voodoo scabbard

Driller,

That looks like a well-made piece of gear, and the price ($24) seems like a great deal. I'm looking forward to your opinion/review when you get it.

I have the 25" flat scabbard from Skinner Sights and am trying to figure-out a way to mount it onto the side of my big Gregory day-pack.

worst comes to worst duct tape always wins haha.

Yea I think the scabbard will be much less irritating than a leg holster, but the leg holster is still fun to wear when shooting at the range etc.

plus with this scabbard I dont have to worry about it getting damaged because its just a 20 dollar piece of nylon, and it should protect most of my ranch hand from tree branches etc.

Scabbard

I have been using a Molle scabbard for my 44 Mag. Not bad for the money and it will protect the gun nicely. Plus people are suprised when they find out whats inside.

in case anyone is interested I just ordered this:

http://www.voodootactical.net/p-1171-voodoo-tactical-20-8916-breachers-shotgun-scabbard.aspx

I am thinking I wont be using my holster in the bush as it may turn out to be a pain.

But this guy should attach to my side straps on my pack and still allow for a quick 'draw' so to speak.

That's what I use.....I removed some of the stitching at the top so the Ranchand can drop in all the way with the large loop.

For a holster I'd like a Yaqui style belt holster made out of kydex worn on the weak side, cross draw like a....:pirate:

I've seen a couple of posts where people refered to another gun store for ranch hands and comments have followed indicating this was a Wanstall's thread. I agree fully with this, however it then stands to reason that the Ranch Hand needs it's own thread.Perhaps a new thread should be started. Too bad because this thread is so good. With the limited supply of ranch hands out there, I doubt any one would lose business because of additional comments. By the way from everything I hear, Wanstall's is a very good outfit to deal with. I haven't had the chance yet, I am on a list for one of these, cheers to all.

The ranch hand thread get's pushed out of the hunting section pretty quick. I do agree that this is the best ranch hand thread available.
