UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

If the rifle shot loads pattern anything like the shot patterns out of my rifled barrel shotgun I wouldn't bother. A slingshot or a big rock/handful of hard thrown gravel would be more effective.

Well the stuff i've seen with the shotshells seems to pattern ok (box o truth did a test as well) but i don't think you're going to get much range.

The problem with the factory load stuff is it's all 11 shot - not really a 'grouse' load. You can buy the cylinders for reloading shot, and I think i'll give that a try with something a little bigger than 11 and see how it does.

Iw ould certainly buy a nice Canadian made holster and belt.
What we need now is:
- pictures
- rough price
Thanks

Allright folks, heres a bit of an update on the belt/holster situation. I've almost finished the first belt for driller212 and am awaiting a carbine version of the mares leg from Foxer to start making patterns. drillers belt was a prototype, others will differ slightly, mainly in how the bullet loops attach and possibly how the buckle end of the belt is finished.

This is an oil based finish which, in my opinion, will offer the best protection for the leather as well as last the longest. I can also offer a dark brown, black, and a tan colour in the oil based stain. The buckle is an antiqued brass one, although I can provide others from just a little more to some real nice, but expensive ones, too. The cartridges shown are .38 spl., .357 mag., and .45 colt; I'll make all belts for specific calibers. With the belts, or holster, all edges will be given a bevel and edge treatment to finish.
Now for the prices.
1) $100-Basic belt, oil finished, with buckle shown. Either no tooling or with just a trim line all around.
2) Belt loops in your caliber -$25
3) Tooling, same pattern or a similar pattern -$25
4)Pig skin suede lining -$25
The holsters will be double thickness, oil finished, and have all edges beveled and finished. I will be offering tooling as well but have not worked out the prices as of yet. I am looking to have some sort of pivot in the holster so that the wearer will have unimpeded motion when bending or squating down. As well, I will offer a pig skin suede lining, pricing to follow later.
If you have any specific designs of buckles or even themes you would like to have, please feel free to ask. I will work with all CGN members to make sure they get exactly what they want. As I have said before, I am not a proffesional and am not looking to retire from these belts/holsters; this is a hobby and I just really like creating something that will get used and appreciated.
Cheers,
spacesaver

Definately count me in. I want more cartridge loops though.

Also, I have found that leather cartridge loops stretch out after a while. Please make sure they are good and tight.

yup I think Imma be a happy camper when I get my ranch hand into its fantastic custom made holster attached to its custom made belt :D

Spacesaver, I'm definitely in for one. Might take me a while to decide w.t.f. I want as far as details, but I like what you've got worked up for driller so far.

Wow, I just read this thread from start to finish. I had ignored it up until now as when these Mare's Leg rifles were first discussed it looked as though they would be restricted, but now... Oh boy! Must Have .44 Magnum! My step-daughter is really gonna want one too.

the more the merrier! these things seem like they are gunna be a hit!

Im dying waiting for mine!!!! baaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!

Who is selling these works of art? How bad is the wait list?

Thanks,

RE

Wanstalls, no price yet, prob 650ish?, first ones coming soon, most of us will be waiting a while, Spacesaver making holsters, seven pages of drool, uh , I think that sums it up thus far.

That seem like fair pricing up there. I coughed up a bit less than $500. for mine with a box of ammo. Thank your lucky stars they are not restricted up there or there is going to be a lot of dreams gone sour.
Hopefully your dealer will ACTUALLY sell lots to help maintain their status.
On another note; I prefer my Rossi to my buds Chiappa. Wood is purty but I'll take function over form.
Doc.

good to hear! they are cheaper, and nicer looking in my opinion. I think they will have no problem selling here seeing as how the waitlist seems to be lengthening by the day with more people finding out about these beauties!

I dont know if I will be in on the first shipment but I really hope so!!!

I've actually heard two people ask if i've heard of them who didn't know i had an interest (there's an hour of their lives they won't get back :D )

So word's getting around and there's a lot of interest. I think they'll sell very well. I hear some stores are bringing in the chiappas too, and i suspect they'll actually sell half way decent as well.

I think by the time the police start to really get nervous about them, there'll be far too many for them to do anything about it :)

That said, I'm hoping people don't go jerking the cops/rcmp around on this. Just saying for those on the board who might be thinking of being offensive and stand offish about it with those lesser informed people in society. So far most of the people posting I know are responsible gun owners.

I'm 100% agreeing with you

yea well if anyone does that they are just ruining their own day haha.

but yea, we just need to be friendly and patient with police/antis and the general public, and it will change their views on firearm owners...

by the way, are they here yet?

I just emailed Gary and put my name on the list for a .44 Mag. I showed my wife last night and she said it was hers, either that or she get's my Marlin 1895 SBL. Not going to happen so I guess she'll get the Rossi. At least the first one...:D

So how was the saddle ring traditionally used?

What is the little leather thong for?

*EDIT

What I mean to say is, I understand that its a single point setup. But for those not wanting to go this route, what is the traditional way and materials?

I was wondering about that little leather piece and I came up with a few theories. It could stop the ring from marking the receiver. It could stop the ring from making noise. It might look attractive to some folks.

As far as the saddle ring use. I have done some research on it and it appears that the ring was clipped to a metal slide that hung on a leather bandoleer or sash. The rifle was then placed into a boot that was attached to the saddle. This would take the weight off the rider while in the saddle and hopefully cause the rifle to go with the trooper if he left the saddle abruptly.
