UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

foxer If they are built strong enough and reliable I am sure quite a few will.
Just look at geologists collection of working firearms they have been through hell.
But every single one is reliable and will not let him down

Well - we'll have to see how they stand up. I suspect they'll be pretty solid, but like anything only the test of time will tell.

Well I went shopping for .44 magnum components today... I won't name the store, but it's one of the major ones, and somewhere (until the last few years) I'd previously enjoyed spending my time and money at. OMF was I disappointed once again at the selection... or more appropriately LACK THEREOF. Bought a couple hundred new 44mag brass and a few hundred Hornady projectiles of various weights. Added a box of clay pidgeons to the total and left swearing to never return. It was one of those 'Im not mad, just disappointed' feelings.
So, ya'll got any online suggestions? I like Hornady bullets and lean toward Hodgdon powder most of the time. Though for the 44 I'll stick with Alliant2400 for now. Is shipping on stuff like bullets ridiculously expensive? In the past I've bought movies, guns, books, reloading tools, collectables, and darn near everything else under the sun off the internet, but always figured the weight just made buying gunfeed online silly. Driving at these gas prices for hours and getting stuck in traffic once you get there is getting pretty silly too though... especially when there's poor selection. Open to suggestions....

Hell, not to say if the ranch hand would work or not. But being a rock licker here in Alberta for one of the Big Four even bear spray is forbidden. I've been told to not leve the argo if I see a bear. Easy to say if you are in an argo... I'm on foot 80% of the time. I would take anything at this point!!!

Ammunition is expensive I don't know anything about reloading.
That is why my 22lr is my go to rifle.
The only reason I'm getting a mares lag is because it is lightweight and compact!

Omineca source for sports, cgn sponsor...

the best store in Canada, as far as I am concerned;)

In the field you get into trouble you are on your own nobody will be able to help you in time.
It should be mandatory that every work crew should have at lease one firearm .It is comforting to have a firearm with you especially when there is no cell phone service!
(You know why we call geologists rock lickers every time you turn around they are licking the core samples to see if there is any visible color in the rock) I have to remember not to piss on the core LOL

Deer season is open about 10 months out of the year here on the Queen Charlotte islands.
We are not the ones just killing because it is open.
We wait till the dear are fat Besides you should see the costs of groceries in remote communities across Canada.
You have to cut corners where you can or go hungry.
Not just Indians are resorting to using 22 everybody is being forced to

I dont know about other companies but we have at least one person with a firearm in our soil sampling crew. I am sure it is the same for most if not all exploration companies.

Don't get me wrong. I've got nothing but respect for the natives like you that continue to work in the bush and work damn hard at it, too. Not so keen on the ones that sit on their asses and collect cheques and then go pitlamp in new trucks with 300 magnums, with little chance of repercussion... I've been to the QCI's 3 times and it has always been a great experience. FIrst time I was there I was 14 and kayaked from one end to the other and back in a month long, life changing journey. I also shot my first deer there with a longbow on that trip.

I was just saying that a guy could feed himself just fine on a linecutter trip with a .22 and no chance of getting arrested.:)

One other group we ran into on that trip were very experienced ocean kayakers and the old dude brought a .22 rifle with him to shoot deer with from time to time.

In our party of 5 kids and one adult, we had two anglers (me and another) and one hunter (me) and even though we brought lots of food with us, we ended up supplementing our diet quite well with deer, salmon, halibut, mussels, clams, octopus, cod/rockfish, sea cucumbers and abalone. QCI's is a hunter/fisher/gatherer paradise, and the old longhouses and totem poles we visited were an amazing testament to the people that inhabited that place from long ago.

Fabulous place you live in, and you seem to be a guy that gets out and takes all it has to offer!:)

I will admit I have pit Lamped in the pass.
As I get older I realize find a hell of a lot more game hunting in the daytime.
Myself I don't care if anyone hunts at night because I know it is a handicap.
Most guys I know have given up on their long-range high-powered magnums because the bullets are traveling too fast for close range hunting. Most of BC you rarely see game much pass 100 yards! I never sight any rifle pass 25 yards

My point is hunting has nothing to do with caliber or the firearm you carry or equipment you have.
It does have everything to do with the Hunter.

EDIT - I didn't know wanstalls sold reloading components.... save on shipping and get your components shipped with the gun!

Mystic Precision and Henry Nierychlo are both dealers on the site and have good reputations. Have dealt with one and have talked with the other, and will be buying from him soon. Both seem like good guys and those that deal with them always come out happy.

Canuckgunny - have you considered Wanstalls?!? - the guys who're nice enough to bring this gun in in the first place?!? :D

Actually I hadn't . And probably the right thing to do all things considered! Thanks GateH/HWally for the other tip.
(edit: yeesh, I kinda feel like a #### for opening that can of worms in the WANSTALLS own forum)

Got enough feed for a little while, can't wait to do some testing... both of the rifle and some loads before crankin out a pile.

.44mag is such a fun round to load in my opinion... very versatile both with weights and charges. Have only loaded for .44 handgun so far so this'll be new.

Havin these new bullets and shiny brass sittin here is kinda like starin at the birthday cake without being allowed to touch it cuz the party is still an hour a way.

I feel your pain :)

you guys will be fine hunting with 44 Magnum all all three calibers are more than enough to hunt anything you like.
There is no handicap to hunt with your mares lag if anything you will have the advantage of lightweight and mobility.
A lot of Moose are loss because a Hunter cannot find them through their scope in time.
