Umm.... I think the .308 win was brought along to replace the 30.06 by the U.S military some 50 odd years later so yeah they were both chosen by the Military, it just so happens that they are still using .308/7.62x51 Nato
I think I know what you mean, the '03 springfield actions were cheap and available so a lot of hunters were out there hunting with 30.06 and the same thing happened here with the .303 brit and the Enfields.
I just wish we could of chambered our wartime rifles in .280 Ross, imagine all those .280 Ross Enfields/Ross Rifles and 280 Ross ammo on the shelf at Crappy Tire. There is something to said for a 145 gr. Bullet travelling at 3000 fps......
