i have not read whole thread, you can use any shot gun shell as a slug. look at shell in the light, you can see the wadding. Cut 95 percent of the circumfernce of the shell with a knife in the wadding part of the shell. When fired it will come out in one piece. There is you slug. Pretty handy if you only have buckshot.
And how well does everything fit through the forcing cone and into the barrel? Sounds like an awfully tight fit. Doesn't that kind of do the same thing as trying to fire a 3" shell in a 2 3/4" chamber? I would not try this as it could be dangerous.
More like trying to fire a 10 ga slug in a 12ga, that is, if I've read correctly what was written.
Seems to me, the fellow, is taking a shell, cutting it along the outside of the shell, loading it. When the gun fires, the whole works, wad, payload, and exterior of shell, goes flying out the end of the barrel.
