In the marketplace immediately following C-68, I could see the inflated price for the M78. I have owned a couple M78s, and while they were fun at the time due to the "its non-restricted" novelty. this wore off big time when the first generation of non-restricted semis came out in the SL8, and Blue Star.
I have owned a couple hunters as well. The same goes for them, but they were less cool, but more portable then the M78 at the time.
Why on earth some still ask the high prices is beyond me. The only thing I can guess is that they are of the mindset " I payed X for it, so I am never going to sell it for less then X".
Cracks me up every time i see some joker posting this.
In terms of portability, and practicality, the 858 is a better rifle then the M78 IMO. Hands down. Comparing the x39 or 223 versions of each of course. And this assessment is assuming they are the same price.
No kidding, those ads usually have numerous bumps and btts under them.
And reposts to make it look like there are no new BTTs.
In today's market, with today's available product line, I would say a better 223/7.62x39 version could be had for less then 1K in the VZ858. For the 308 version, I would say that a better rifle can be had in the M305 for 400 or whatever they go for now. Maybe add up to a grand for a pistol grip. For the 3006 versions of the hunters, on the other hand, there probably isn't a comparable rifle on the market.
