Valmet : Where in God's name are they all hiding

So are these not being made anymore? Is that why they’re so sought after? As an oic non-restricted AK you figure they would be imported in massive numbers. It’s an honest question, I’ve never really entertained the thought of one due to price.

I tend to agree with the other couple posts. We are complaining about the price now but in the future the current prices will look cheap.

Sterlings???

And while I agree with you on the Valmets not being prohibited (they even have a note in the FRT about their use with the natives up north) but in a decade they will be worth $20k, mark my words.

He may be referring to how the r.c.m.p got spanked in court when they where trying to prohibit Sterling's.
Problem is they were caught on video replacing the bolt assembly with one of there choosing which allowed it to fire full auto.

It's a non restricted ak. Ie the only one anyone can currently own and actually legally shoot in Canada.
Some call it the Cadillac of kalashnikovs blah blah but I can tell you this, if there were a finite number of no longer produced generic Chinese NR type 56 kalashikov clones under the same special provision, the same types would still be dropping $5k on them.

In the end they're exactly what they are: a non restricted semi rare unicorn gun with mythical loony Canadian gun law status that people will drop $5k and up if they drink enough cool aid lol

I'm not ####ting on the kalashnikov action either. I've fired them lots including full auto and I'm a big fan. But i wouldn't spend thousands on one even if I won the lottery.

I might be off on Sterling SMGs; have never seen one before. I personally value Valmets highly; just that there are better guns to buy for 12 grand lol. A $20k Valmet would be equally awesome and nuts!

Believe they stopped making them in the 80s, and Valmet is now a defunct company (bought by Sako Finland? not sure).

Over the last 10 years I had 10 Valmets (6 x 78s and 4 x hunters). Sold them all though.
They are very high quality but parts are very rare and expensive. Never had the 7.62 x39.
They really helped me to appreciate a high quality ak action and I really learned to run an ak well!

I think I still have some parts laying around.

We should put in a FOI request for # of hamlet's in NR registry until abolition. Get a reasonable estimate that way

They definitely can be hard to find. I have one I'm going to be selling soon. Two members on here who I've dealt with before have both asked me to check with them first if I were to ever sell it, but if neither of them wants it, it'll be on the ee in the next couple of weeks. Just gotta gather up the parts and mags, as it's a half-finished Hunter-to-Galil conversion, and my gun room got turned into the baby's room last fall, so everything is in boxes!!

Sterling Police Carbine sold for $400 in the 80's.

They still are in the 2000+usd range in the USA on gunbroker so after import fees and exchange your getting close 5000canuks . you can buy a mak-90 in the $1000 range and high end Krebs or rifle dynamics are in the 2000 range

Of course government can change anything at anytime (and RCMP now with C71), but the Valmet M78 - together with Sterlings - are specifically named OIC models as NR exempt. If rumour holds true that a bunch were given out to Metis back in the day for hunting use, then I tend to think M78s will always be exempt even in the event of any semi auto ban.

My two cents. Been looking for a .223 myself, but no calibre Valmet is worth 10K. At least, not for another decade.

But you’d pay 9G!!!.....opinions are like what they say?

And you didn't want to deal a year ago when you tried to sell yours like you are now, and chased me down by text twice with silly pics of yourself posing with the rifle? Told me you had no extra mags and all of a sudden a 100rd drum appears with your ad? Fine line between value and gouge my friend.

Don't be inferring labels on people. Not cool.

The 7.62x39 m78’s when they do sell in Canada typically go for 8-10k (I’ve seen four sell in that range). They are very nicely made AK variants. They seem to be valued at these prices based on the current legal status and relative rarity especially the 7.62x39 model. Understand very few were imported in this soviet caliber into the USA in the early 80’s simply because their wasn’t much ammo available in the US market in 7.62x39 at that time and it wasn’t a popular round. I didn’t feel good about my 10k valmet being worth 1k if it went prohibited so I got out of it...

We are not friends that must be another of your opinions......like no valmets are worth 10g.....but they are worth 9..!!!. That’s a fine line right there 1000 dollars between value or gouge.....I never chased anyone I sent a picture of me the day I got mine! if I’d shown up at your house that would be chasing....another foolish opinion. I have plenty of mags and have offered the ones I’m willing to part with the 100rnd drum I got after Xmas .....so what .
Opinions are like #######s everybody has one right what’s not cool about that?
Care to share what you payed for your valmet with cracked parts and a few common mags.
Your right in that I didn’t want to sell mine a year ago for 9G and yes I’ll try again so what.
Mine is flawless with no broken buttstock! Spare parts and a very rare possiblely only one in Canada drum mag which we can no longer import not a bad deal in my opinion. Lol

I mean if there was a 5.56 one on the EE right now I'd be making some offers, personally not interested in the x39 . x51/.308 would also be nice though

There is no fine line between value and gouge. Seller asks a price he wants for his item, your choice is to pay it or not, I think that is pretty simple
